A debutante, also spelled débutante, ( ; from french: débutante , "female beginner") or deb is a young woman of aristocratic or Upper class, upper-class family background who has reached maturity and, as a new adult, is presented to society at a formal "debut" ( , ; french: début, links=no ) or possibly debutante ball. Originally, the term meant that the woman was old enough to be married, and part of the purpose of her coming out was to display her to eligible bachelors and their families, with a view to marriage within a select circle. The Real Group
The Real Group is an a cappella group from Sweden. Members are Emma Nilsdotter, Lisa Östergren, Anders Edenroth, Anton Forsberg and Jānis Strazdiņš. The group's members compose and arrange most of their songs. They sing in English and Swedish and cite American vocalist Bobby McFerrin as an inspiration. Sarah Chang
Sarah Chang ( ko, 장영주; born Young Joo Chang; December 10, 1980) is a Korean American classical violinist. Recognized as a child prodigy, she first played as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1989. She enrolled at Juilliard School to study music, graduated in 1999, and continued university studies. Especially during the 1990s and early to mid-2000s, Chang had major roles as a soloist with many of the world's major orchestras. Early life and education Chang was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and raised in Cherry Hill and Voorhees Township, New Jersey. She is the daughter of Myoung-Jun (her mother), a composer, and Min-Soo Chang (her father), who was a violinist and music teacher. Chang's parents moved to the United States from South Korea in 1979 for her father's advanced music degree at Temple University. Her mother took composition classes at the University of Pennsylvania. Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band
The Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band is a competitive grade one pipe band from Lisburn, Northern Ireland named in honour of Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein. The band has won the World Pipe Band Championships 13 times, making it the third most successful competing pipe band in history behind the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band and the Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band. History The band was founded in 1945 in the townland of Drumalig, a few miles from Carryduff on the outskirts of Belfast. A group of farmer’s sons had decided to form a band and name it after Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery. The youths wrote to Montgomery to ask for permission to use his name, and as well as allowing them to use his name he donated ten shillings to their funds. Brandi Disterheft (born 1980) is a Canadian jazz bassist and composer. Biography Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Disterheft grew up in the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia where she attended Handsworth Secondary School. Upon graduation, she won scholarship to attend Humber College in Toronto, Ontario where she studied under Don Thompson. Disterheft has also studied under Rufus Reid, Rodney Whitaker, and Oscar Peterson. Peterson notably said about Disterheft, "She has the same lope or rhythmic pulse as my bassist, Ray Brown. Carol Kidd
Carol Kidd MBE (born 19 October 1945) is a Scottish jazz singer. Kidd was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She came to prominence in the mid-1970s, as the vocalist in the band led by vibraphonist / saxophonist Jimmy Feighan. In 1990, she released her award-winning album ''The Night We Called It a Day''. She has subsequently performed and recorded extensively on her own. She has won several awards at the British Jazz Awards. In 1998, she was appointed an MBE. is the debut and first studio album by Japanese singer Sayuri Ishikawa (石川さゆり). The album was released on 25 August 1973 by Nippon Columbia (日本コロムビア). Of the twelve songs in the album, four are original songs written for Ishikawa. The other eight songs are covers. Track listing Singles Kakurenbo (かくれんぼ) was originally released as the first single of Ishikawa with Tsugaru no Sato (津軽の里) as its B-side. Aoi Tsukiyo no Sampo Michi (青い月夜の散歩道) was Ishikawa’s second single with Anato to Watashi no Mura-matsuri (あなたと私の村祭り) as its B-side.
