Dumitru Pârvulescu
Dumitru Pârvulescu (or, in older spelling, Pîrvulescu; 14 June 1933 – 9 April 2007) was a flyweight Greco-Roman wrestler from Romania. He competed at the 1952, 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics and won a gold medal in 1960, placing third in 1964 and fourth in 1956. At the world championships he won a silver medal in 1961 and finished fourth-fifth in 1953 and 1958. Sporting career Pârvulescu took up wrestling at a very young age, with the Vulturii club in Lugoj. During his career he also represented Știința (Bucharest), Steagul Roșu ( Braşov), and for the most part Steaua Bucharest. He debuted internationally in East Berlin in 1951, where he finished second. His Olympic debut in 1952 was less successful (2 defeats, 9th place). He narrowly missed the podium in the world Championship in Naples in 1953, losing only to the world champion Ahmet Bilek; he also finished fourth at the 1956 Olympics. Lugoj
Lugoj (; hu, Lugos; german: Lugosch; sr, Лугош, Lugoš; bg, Лугож; tr, Logoş) is a list of cities and towns in Romania, city in Timiș County, Romania. The Timiș River divides the city into two halves, the so-called "Romanian Lugoj" that spreads on the right bank and the "German Lugoj" on the left bank. The city administers two villages, Măguri ( hu, Szendelak) and Tapia ( hu, Tápia). Etymology The origin of the toponym ''Lugoj'' has generated a series of controversies over time. claims that it derives from the Latin language, Latin word "lucus" (grove, small forest). Iorgu Iordan, in his ''Romanian toponymy'', accepts the origin of the name from the Slavic prefix "lug-" or "luh-" (swamp forest) and the Hungarian suffix "-os". However, linguist Simion Dănilă claims that the name of the city has its origin in the word "logos", a Banat doublet for "rogoz" (sedge, a hydrophilous plant). Constantin Alexandru
Constantin Alexandru (15 December 1953 – 10 August 2014) was a light-flyweight Greco-Roman wrestler from Romania who won a silver medal at the 1980 Olympics. He was the world champion in 1978 and 1979 and European champion in 1974–1975 and 1977–1979. Alexandru took up wrestling at Farul Constanţa, but then moved to CSA Steaua București Clubul Sportiv al Armatei Steaua București, commonly known as CSA Steaua București () or simply Steaua, is a major multi-sports club based in Bucharest and run by the Ministry of National Defence.
