Don MacLean (basketball)
Donald James MacLean (born January 16, 1970) is an American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). As a college player, he is the all-time scoring leader of both the Pac-12 Conference and UCLA. In 1994, MacLean won the NBA Most Improved Player Award as a member of the Washington Bullets (known now as the Washington Wizards). He currently works as a basketball color analyst. High school career Born in Palo Alto, California, MacLean graduated from Simi Valley High School in Simi Valley, California where he was an All-American his senior year. College career MacLean played in college at UCLA from 1989 to 1992. He still holds the school record for points scored (2,608) which is also the Pac-12 Conference's (then known as the Pac-10) all-time scoring record, passing Sean Elliott's then record of 2,555 points. Pac-12 Conference Men's Basketball Freshman Of The Year
The Pac-12 Freshman of the Year is an annual award in the Pac-12 Conference presented to its top freshman player in men's basketball. The winner is chosen by the Pac-12 coaches. The honor began in 1978–79, when it was known as the Rookie of the Year and players in their first year in the conference, including transfers, were eligible. Junior guard Bryan Rison of Washington State was the first honoree and the only non-freshman to ever win. The candidates were limited to freshman starting in 1983–84, when the award was renamed to Freshman of the Year. The conference was known as the Pacific-10 before becoming the Pac-12 in 2011. In basketball, an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads directly to a score by field goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the basket.
