Documentation Center Of Cambodia
The Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam) is a Cambodian non-governmental organization whose mission is to research and record the era of Democratic Kampuchea (April 17, 1975 – January 7, 1979) for the purposes of ''memory'' and ''justice''. History In 1994, the United States Congress passed the Cambodian Genocide Justice Act which provided grants to Yale University's Cambodian Genocide Program. DC-Cam was the field office of the Yale program until January 1, 1997, when it became an independent non-governmental organization. Organization The center presently contains the world's largest archive on the Khmer Rouge period with over 155,000 pages of documents and 6,000 photographs. Genocide Education
Genocide education refers to education about patterns and trends in the phenomenon of genocide and/or about the causes, nature and impact of particular instances of genocide. Educating about genocide in Rwanda Recent Rwanda history curricula explicitly stipulate the teaching of the 1994 genocide of the Tutsi, notably through the comparison "of different genocides" with a view to "suggest ways of preventing genocide from happening again in Rwanda and elsewhere". Cambodian Genocide Denial
Cambodian genocide denial was the belief expressed by many Western academics that claims of atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge government (1975–1979) in Cambodia were much exaggerated. Many scholars of Cambodia and intellectuals opposed to the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War denied or minimized the human rights abuses of the Khmer Rouge, characterizing contrary reports as "tales told by refugees" and U.S. propaganda. They viewed the assumption of power by the Communist Party of Kampuchea as a positive development for the people of Cambodia who had been severely impacted by the Vietnam War and the Cambodian Civil War. A History Of Democratic Kampuchea (1975–1979)
''A History of Democratic Kampuchea (1975–1979)'' ( km, ប្រវត្តិសាស្ត្រកម្ពុជាប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ (១៩៧៥-១៩៧៩)) is a 2007 Cambodian textbook written by Khamboly Dy. The 87-page textbook was commissioned by the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam), with Dy becoming the first Cambodian to write a textbook about the period. Youk Chhang, then the Director of DC-Cam, supervised the project, while Wynne Cougill acted as both adviser and editor and American historian David P. Chandler acted as reviewer of the text. Joseph Adamo Mussomeli (born May 26, 1952) was an employee of the United States Department of State and is the former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia and the Kingdom of Cambodia. Early life Mussomeli's grandparents on both sides of the family immigrated to America from Sicily around the turn of the 19th century. Mussomeli was born in New York City on May 26, 1952. His father, Mariano Mussomeli, was an officer in the United States Army and served in both World War II and the Korean War. Genocide
Genocide is the intentional destruction of a people—usually defined as an ethnic, national, racial, or religious group—in whole or in part. Raphael Lemkin coined the term in 1944, combining the Greek word (, "race, people") with the Latin suffix ("act of killing").. Democratic Kampuchea
Kampuchea ( km, កម្ពុជា ), officially known as Democratic Kampuchea (DK; km, កម្ពុជាប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ ) from 5 January 1976, was a one-party totalitarian state which encompassed modern-day Cambodia and existed from 1975 to 1979.
