Dire Straits Legacy
Dire Straits were a British rock band formed in London in 1977 by Mark Knopfler (lead vocals and lead guitar), David Knopfler (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), John Illsley (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Pick Withers (drums and percussion). They were active from 1977 to 1988 and again from 1990 to 1995. Their first single, "Sultans of Swing", from their 1978 self-titled debut album, reached the top ten in the UK and US charts. It was followed by hit singles including "Romeo and Juliet" (1981), "Private Investigations" (1982), "Twisting by the Pool" (1983), " Money for Nothing" (1985), and "Walk of Life" (1985). Their most commercially successful album, '' Brothers in Arms'' (1985), has sold more than 30 million copies; it was the first album to sell a million copies on compact disc and is the eighth-bestselling album in UK history. Drammenshallen
Drammenshallen is an indoor arena located in Drammen, Norway. It opened in 1978 and is primarily used for handball, and to a lesser extent, track and field, trade shows, exhibitions, and in the past major concerts. Drammen HK and Glassverket IF is currently the main tenant at the facility. The capacity is approximately 4,000 or 6,000 for concerts. History The hall was known for large concerts in the 1980s. Some of the notable artists to have performed at the venue include Duran Duran, Kiss, Elton John, Jethro Tull, Eric Clapton, Iron Maiden, Paul Simon, Thin Lizzy, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan and Queen. Hal Lindes
Hal Andrew Lindes is an American–English guitarist and film score composer. In 1979, he played guitar with the new wave group Darling. Signed to Charisma Records, they released the single "Do You Wanna" (written by Lindes) and published the album ''Put It Down To Experience'' the same year, before breaking up. Lindes is best known for his work as a full-time member of British rock band Dire Straits from 1980 until 1985. Dire Straits (1980–1985) Lindes became a full-time member of Dire Straits at the end of 1980, shortly after the release of the group's third album, ''Making Movies''. He replaced original co-founding member and rhythm guitarist David Knopfler. Lindes toured with Dire Straits while they were promoting ''Making Movies'' and remained with the band while they recorded their fourth album, 1982's ''Love Over Gold''.
