Dionysios Georgakopoulos
Dionysios Georgakopoulos ( gr, Διονύσιος Γεωργακόπουλος; born 16 April 1963 in Athens) is a Greek sport shooter. He has been selected to compete for Greece in two editions of the Olympic Games (2000 and 2004), and has won a total of two medals, a gold and a silver, in pistol shooting at a major international competition, spanning the 2001 and 2003 ISSF World Cup series. Georgakopoulos is also a member of the shooting team at Ethnikos Gymnastikos Syllogos ( en, Ethnikos Sports Gym) in his native Athens. Georgakopoulos' Olympic debut came as a 37-year-old at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he finished seventeenth in the air pistol, and sixteenth in the free pistol, producing aggregate scores of 576 and 557 respectively. The men's ISSF 50 meter pistol competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on 17 August at the Markópoulo Olympic Shooting Centre near Athens, Greece. There were 42 competitors from 31 nations. Russia's Mikhail Nestruyev, after winning air pistol silver medal, took gold in the event with a total of 663.3, just two points adrift of South Korea's Jin Jong-oh, who left only with the silver on 661.5. Meanwhile, North Korean shooter Kim Jong-su fired a total of 657.7 points to steadily round out the podium with a bronze. Nestruyev's gold was Russia's second victory in the event. Both South Korea and North Korea earned their first medals in the free pistol. Background This was the 21st appearance of the ISSF 50 meter pistol event. The men's 10 metre air pistol competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on 14 August at the Markópoulo Olympic Shooting Centre near Athens, Greece. The event consisted of two rounds: a qualifier and a final. In the qualifier, each shooter fired 60 shots with an air pistol at 10 metres distance. Scores for each shot were in increments of 1, with a maximum score of 10. The top 8 shooters in the qualifying round moved on to the final round. There, they fired an additional 10 shots. These shots scored in increments of 0.1, with a maximum score of 10.9.
