Club cricket is a mainly amateur, but still formal, form of the sport of cricket, usually involving teams playing in competitions at weekends or in the evening. There is a great deal of variation in game format although the Laws of Cricket are observed. Spondon Cricket Club
Spondon Cricket Club is an amateur cricket club based in Spondon, Derbyshire, England. The club has a history dating back to the late 19th century. Ground The home ground is located on Locko Road in Spondon, Derbyshire and has two pitches, an all-weather pitch and a two lane, all-weather net facility. The 1st and 2nd XI teams use the pitch directly in front of the pavilion, rated by the DCCL as a Grade A+ ground, and the 3rd and 4th XI use the pitch in the field beyond the 1st pitch, rated a Grade B ground. History The earliest known record of Spondon Cricket Club dates back to 1883 when the local village boys were invited to join with the pupils of ''Spondon House School for Sons of Gentlemen''. The school was housed in a Georgian mansion that was a secondary seat of the Drury Lowes, on the Locko estate. Cricket In Derbyshire
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket.
