Dekajaz
Dekajaz was a 10 piece concert jazz band based in Los Angeles, California, Los Angeles. The group was critically acclaimed and most notably was founded to promote under-represented female jazz artists in the Southern California region much like the group Ann Patterson, Maiden Voyage. The group had many prominent performances in Los Angeles during their existence. Their album ''Eclectikos'' was released in September 2003. History The DekaJaz Tentet first came together as an all female jazz group in the winter of 1999 as an idea of co-leaders Scheila Gonzalez (sax), Glenda Smith (trumpet), and Megan Foley (drums, arranger). Eventually the group did evolve into including certain male artists such as trumpeter Lee Thornburg, saxophonist Lee Secard and others. The group called upon the writing and arranging talents of Jack Cooper (American musician), Jack Cooper, David Caffey, Rick Lawn, Dan Higgins, Paul McKee, as well as their own Lee Secard, Megan Foley and Josh Nelson. Scheila Gonzalez
Scheila Gonzalez (born August 5, 1971 in Los Angeles, California) is an American, Grammy winning multi-instrumentalist and music educator. She is best known for playing the saxophone and other instruments in the all-female Sherrie Maricle, DIVA Jazz Orchestra and with artists such as Dweezil Zappa, Alex Acuña, Ray Parker Jr. and many others. Formerly a full-time member of the Zappa Plays Zappa world tour, since 2019 Gonzalez has been touring with Colin Hay as part of a revived and revamped Men at Work lineup, where she sings and plays the alto saxophone as well as several other instruments. Biography Gonzalez took piano lessons from the age of four and changed to the saxophone at age twelve. After graduating from Anaheim High School in 1989, she attended Fullerton College in the early 1990s and recorded on the Downbeat magazine, Downbeat critically acclaimed CD ''Mainstream (Fullerton College Jazz Band album), Mainstream''.
