''De strijdlust is geboren'' (translation: "The Lust for Combat Is Born") is the debut studio album by the Dutch folk/Viking metal band Heidevolk. Originally released independently in 2005, Napalm Records re-released this album on April 22, 2008, with three bonus tracks originally released on Heidevolk's EP ''Wodan heerst''. Heidevolk
Heidevolk is a folk metal band from the Netherlands. The lyrical themes of their music are inspired by nature, the history of Gelderland, and Germanic mythology. Most of their lyrics are in Dutch; however, since their album '' Velua'', they also have one original English song, "Vinland", and several English covers. History Heidevolk was founded under the name Hymir in 2002. They later changed their name to Heidevolk (Dutch for 'heath-folk' or 'heather folk'), inspired by the Veluwe landscape. Folk Metal
Folk metal is a fusion genre of heavy metal music and traditional folk music that developed in Europe during the 1990s. It is characterised by the widespread use of folk instruments and, to a lesser extent, traditional singing styles (for example, Dutch Heidevolk, Danish Sylvatica and Spanish Stone of Erech). ''Wodan Heerst'' is an EP by the Dutch pagan/ folk metal band Heidevolk. The first track is included on the band's following studio album, '' Walhalla Wacht''. Napalm Records is an Austrian independent record label focused on heavy metal and hard rock. Ons Gelderland
"Ons Gelderland" (Our Gelderland) is the anthem of the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. There are two versions of the song. The first, 'Ons Gelderland' is sung the most, but the second, 'het Geldersch Volkslied', is considered by many to be the official anthem. Since Gelderland is a province, and not a country, the officiality of either one remains undecided. Nowadays, the provincial government of Gelderland displays 'Ons Gelderland' on their website. In the past they have stated 'het Geldersch Volkslied' to be the official anthem. A remarkable detail to note is that each version can be sung to the same tune. Normaal is a rock band from the Netherlands, more specifically from the Achterhoek region, who sing in Achterhooks, a local variety of the Low Saxon language group. , who was an arts student at an arts academy, stationed in Amsterdam in the 1970s, started the band in 1975 as a reaction to disco and glamrock, in addition to the overall "Dutch snobbery" towards people from the Low Saxon-speaking regions, and use of the English language by many other Dutch artists.
