John Donovan DeWitt (born November 13, 1970) is an American chiropractor and former arena football offensive line / defensive lineman. He played college football at Vanderbilt. Professional career After going undrafted in the 1994 NFL Draft, he tried out for the San Francisco 49ers. He then joined the Houston Oilers in 1995. On August 23, 1995, he was waived by the Oilers. DeWitt was drafted in the fourth round (19th overall) of the 1996 World League Draft by the Scottish Claymores of the World League of American Football (later NFL Europe). John Riegel DeWitt (October 29, 1881 – July 28, 1930) was an American athlete, including a legendary college football player. As a track and field athlete, DeWitt competed mainly in the hammer throw. He competed for the United States in the 1904 Summer Olympics held in St. Louis in the hammer throw where he won the silver medal. He was also a prominent guard and kicker for the Princeton Tigers football team. In an attempt to name retroactive Heisman Trophy winners, Dewitt was awarded it for 1903. Hugh Hamilton DeWitt (28 December 1933-5 January 1995) was an American ichthyologist, marine biologist and oceanographer. DeWitt was born on 28 December 1933 in San Jose, California, son of Carl Bryce Seligman, a country doctor, and Honor Pettit Seligman, a teacher of mathematics and Latin. His surname at birth was Seligman but at his father's urging he and his brothers changed their name to DeWitt in the 1950s, a name from their mother’s side of the family, as they had encountered mistaken preconceptions while attending High Schools in the eastern United States.
