Daylight Saving Party
The Daylight Saving Party is a registered political party in Western Australia. History The Daylight Saving Party was founded in September 2016 by brothers Brett and Wilson Tucker. It was registered as a political party on 29 November 2016. An earlier Daylight Saving Party registration in 2005 was cancelled in 2008 when the Electoral Commissioner found that it did not have at least 500 members. That party fielded one candidate each in five of the six regions in the September 2008 election before being deregistered in November the same year. Background Western Australia does not observe daylight saving time, and has rejected it in referendums in 1975, 1984, 1992 and 2009. Western Australia trialled daylight saving for three years before the 2009 referendum, and one summer before each of the earlier referendums. Wilson Tucker (politician)
Wilson Robert Tucker (born 29 September 1984) is an Australian politician serving in the Western Australian Legislative Council for the Mining and Pastoral region. He was elected at the 2021 Western Australian state election for the Daylight Saving Party, with 98 primary votes, or 0.18% of the vote – believed to be the lowest primary vote for any politician elected to a parliament in Australia. Biography Pre-2021 election Tucker lived in the state's South West region for most of his early life and graduated from Bunbury Catholic College. He worked as an electrician for two years before studying a Bachelor of Computer Science at Edith Cowan University in Perth. He moved to Seattle in 2018 to continue his career. He co-founded the Daylight Saving Party with his twin brother Brett Tucker in 2016, and was an unsuccessful candidate for the South Metropolitan region in the 2017 state election, winning 0.79% of the vote. Daylight Saving For South East Queensland
Daylight Saving for South East Queensland (DS4SEQ) was a political party in Queensland, Australia. It was a single-issue party, run by volunteers, that advocated the introduction of Daylight Saving into Queensland, or at the very least into South East Queensland under a dual-time zone arrangement - with the remainder of the state to maintain standard time. The party proposed a possible dual time zone, which included the following 15 local and regional government areas: Brisbane, Fraser Coast, Gold Coast, Goondiwindi, Gympie, Ipswich, Lockyer, Logan, Moreton Bay, Redland, Scenic Rim, Somerset, Southern Downs, Sunshine Coast, and Toowoomba. Fluoride Free WA Party was a political party registered for elections in Western Australia. Its main policy is to end mandatory water fluoridation in Western Australia. The party is a distinct legal entity from an advocacy organisation named Fluoride Free WA Inc, however, the party was formed by the advocacy group to increase media interest. The party merged into the Health Australia Party in 2019. Fluoride Free WA Party fielded two candidates in each of the six regions for the Legislative Council in the 2017 Western Australian election. It subsequently also ran John Watt (a vice-president and the treasurer of Fluoride Free WA Inc) as a candidate in the Darling Range by-election in 2018. Flux The System
Flux (also known as Liberals For Climate - The Flux Network in Western Australia), is a political movement which aims to replace the world's elected legislatures with a new system known as issue-based direct democracy (IBDD). Flux originated in and is most active in Australia, but it is also active internationally, with groups existing in the United States and Brazil. IBDD is similar to liquid democracy, though there are differences. In IBDD, voters would still have the right to vote directly on every issue or delegate their vote to someone else, but unlike in liquid democracy, voters can choose to forgo votes on one issue to use on another issue. This creates opportunity cost between issues and allows voters to specialise their votes on the issues that are more important to them. Family First Party
The Family First Party was a conservative political party in Australia which existed from 2002 to 2017. It was founded in South Australia where it enjoyed its greatest electoral support. Since the demise of the Australian Conservatives into which it merged, it has been refounded in that state as the Family First Party (2021), where it contested the state election in 2022, but failed to win a seat. Family First had three candidates elected to the Senate during its existence— Steve Fielding (2005–2011), Bob Day (2014–2016), and Lucy Gichuhi (2017; elected on a countback following Day being declared ineligible). Glenn Druery is an Australian political strategist, electoral campaigner and ultra-distance cyclist. He has played a leading role in the electoral success of various micro and minor parties in Australia since the mid-1990s.
