Dževad Hamzić
Dževad Hamzić (born 4 September 1968) is a Bosnian sitting volleyball player. A member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national sitting volleyball team, he won medals at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 Summer Paralympics. Biography Hamzić was born on 4 September 1968. He served in the Bosnian War as a member of the Bosnian Army. While serving in the war, he stepped on a mine in the village of Nišići, leaving him visually impaired and requiring a leg amputation. As part of his rehabilitation, he started playing sitting volleyball in 1996. Beginning with the "A" club that year, he later joined the club SDI Spid in 1998. Hamzić was called up to the Bosnia and Herzegovina national sitting volleyball team in 1998 and has been one of the main players for the team since; by 2019, he had appeared in 148 matches, a joint-record he shared with Sabahudin Delalić, Ismet Godinjak and Adnan Manko. The Bosnia and Herzegovina men's national sitting volleyball team (; ; ) represents Bosnia and Herzegovina in international sitting volleyball competitions and friendly matches. Bosnia is one of the dominant forces in sitting volleyball worldwide, alongside Iran. The team won a bronze medal, during ECVD European Championships in 1997 in Tallinn. It took nearly two decades later for the nation to win a medal outside the sport of sitting volleyball when Amel Tuka won bronze during 2015 World Championships in Athletics. The team is the most decorated in Bosnia and Herzegovina sport having won 2 paralympic volleyball gold medals, 4 paralympic silver medals, 3 World Cup titles, and 9 won European Championships straight. Sitting Volleyball At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Two sitting volleyball team events were held at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, one for men and one for women. They were held at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, Japan. The Tokyo Games were the fifth time the women's sitting volleyball event was contested. It was also the fifth Summer Paralympic Games without standing volleyball events, which had been included from the introduction of volleyball in 1976 through 2000. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Qualification There were 16 teams (8 male, 8 female) that competed in the competition. During the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, the USA women won the event for the first time beating China in the final. The Summer Paralympics, also known as the Games of the Paralympiad, are an international multi-sport event where athletes with physical disabilities compete. Adnan Manko
Adnan Manko (born 16 January 1977) is a Bosnian sitting volleyball player. A member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national sitting volleyball team, he won medals at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 Summer Paralympics. Biography Manko was born on 16 January 1977 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. He started playing sitting volleyball in 1994. He recalled that "One of my neighbours played sitting volleyball before the osnianwar and invited me to start training. Never before in my life had I played volleyball, but after just a few training sessions I loved the sport." Ismet Godinjak (born 17 March 1973) is a Bosnian sitting volleyball player. A member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national sitting volleyball team, he won medals at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 Summer Paralympics. Biography Godinjak was born on 17 March 1973 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. He grew up playing volleyball, and after the Bosnian War, began competing in sitting volleyball as part of his rehabilitation. Sabahudin Delalić
Sabahudin Delalić (born 17 August 1972) is a Bosnian sitting volleyball player. The captain of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national sitting volleyball team, he won medals at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 Summer Paralympics. He has helped Bosnia and Herzegovina win medals at over 25 international competitions and served as the Bosnian flagbearer at two Paralympics. Early life Delalić was born on 17 August 1972, in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. He received his education in Sarajevo and graduated with a master's degree from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education at the University of Sarajevo. World ParaVolley
World ParaVolley, formerly the World Organization Volleyball for Disabled (WOVD), is an international organization that is for people with physical disabilities. It is affiliated with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The World Organization Volleyball for Disabled was established in 1981 and was part of the International Sports Organization for Disabled (ISOD). In 1992 the WOVD became its own separate Organization in Barcelona, Spain. The WOVD Headquarters were also established in the Netherlands.
