Déjean Bélizaire
Déjean Bélizaire is a Haitian politician who served as president of the Senate from 1991 to 1993. Bélizaire was born in 1935 in Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite. He was the head of Haitian Students Union (UNEH) in the late 1950s. He is an engineer, who worked in Algeria and USA before returning to Haiti. He is a former chairman a center-left party Mouvement National Patriotique de 28 Novembre ( MNP 28). Bélizaire was elected to the Senate in 1990. He was the president of the Senate from 1991 to 31 January 1993. Senate (Haiti)
The Senate (, ) is the upper house of Haiti's bicameral legislature, the Haitian Parliament. The lower house of the Haitian Parliament is the Chamber of Deputies of Haiti, Chamber of Deputies. The Senate consists of thirty seats, with three members from each of the ten administrative Departments of Haiti, departments. Prior to the creation of the department of Nippes in 2003, there were twenty-seven seats. Senators are elected by popular vote to six-year terms, with one-third elected every two years. There are no term limits for senators; they may be re-elected indefinitely. After the Haitian general election, 2000, elections of 2000, twenty-six of the then twenty-seven seats were held by Jean-Bertrand Aristide's Fanmi Lavalas party. The Senate was not in session following the 2004 Haiti rebellion, overthrow of Aristide's government in February 2004. Petite Rivière De L'Artibonite
Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite (; ) is a List of communes of Haiti, commune in the Dessalines Arrondissement, in the Artibonite (department), Artibonite Departments of Haiti, department of Haiti. It is located in the Artibonite Valley, with the center of the town on a bluff overlooking the Artibonite River. One of the important battles of the Haitian Revolution (1791–1804) was fought here at Battle of Crête-à-Pierrot, Crete Pierrot; Jean-Jacques Dessalines ravaged the French army led by Donatien-Marie-Joseph de Vimeur, vicomte de Rochambeau, Rochambeau. The town is the site of Palais de la Belle Rivière, a palace built from 1816 to 1820 by Henri Christophe. Its construction was never finished. Despite a popular urban legend, the palace does not have 365 doors and 52 windows. Following the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2010 earthquake, the palace was restored from its dilapidated state.
