Dzerzhinsky City District (russian: Дзержи́нский райо́н) is one of the seven city districts of Perm, Russia, Perm. Population: Name The city district is called after Felix Dzerzhinsky, a Soviet Union, Soviet revolutionary and politician. Geography The city district is situated on both banks of the Kama River. Two other rivers flowing through it are the Mulyanka River, Mulyanka and the Danilikha River, Danilikha. Notable streets Lenina Street, Plekhanova Street, and Parkovy Avenue are the largest streets in the district. Parkovy Avenue (Perm)
Park Avenue ({{in lang, ru: Парковый проспект, "Parkovyy Prospekt") is the name of a street in Dzerzhinsky District in the city of Perm, Russia. The street was formerly named Voroshilov Avenue after Soviet military commander and statesman Kliment Voroshilov. Name changes The avenue was originally known as Pereselencheskaya Street; a fragment of this street still exists at the far eastern end of the avenue. Starting in 1975, the street began appearing on maps of Perm as Voroshilov Avenue. In 1988 the local press began to suggest that the street be renamed. The majority of Perm's citizens agreed that the avenue needed a new name, but opinion varied greatly on what the new name should be. Some suggested the street be named after Tukhachevsky or Zhukov in keeping with Russian history, but overall the name "Park Avenue" was the most popular. Perm (russian: Пермь, p=pʲermʲ), previously known as Yagoshikha (Ягошиха) (1723–1781), and Molotov (Молотов) (1940–1957), is the largest city and the administrative centre of Perm Krai, Russia. The city is located on the banks of the Kama River, near the Ural Mountains, covering an area of , with a population of over one million residents. Perm is the fifteenth-largest city in Russia, and the fifth-largest city in the Volga Federal District. In 1723, a copper-smelting works was founded at the village of ''Yagoshikha''. Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky ( pl, Feliks Dzierżyński ; russian: Фе́ликс Эдму́ндович Дзержи́нский; – 20 July 1926), nicknamed "Iron Felix", was a Bolshevik revolutionary and official, born into Poland, Polish nobility. From 1917 until his death in 1926, Dzerzhinsky led the first two Soviet National Security, state-security organizations, the Cheka and the OGPU, establishing a Chronology of Soviet secret police agencies, secret police for the Russian Revolution, post-revolutionary Sovnarkom, Soviet regime. He was one of the architects of the Red Terror and decossackization.
