Durău Monastery
Durău is a ski resort located in north-eastern Romania, in Neamț County, Moldavia near the Ceahlău Massif (to the mountains' north-west side). The location is disadvantaged because of the lack of accessibility, the only access road being DN15 (from Poiana Largului); the regular route from Bicaz is closed as of February 2006 due to landslides. Durau Resort lies in Neamț county, at 780–800 m altitude, 9 km from Izvorul Muntelui Lake on the river Bistrița, in a sunny glade, on the north-west slope of the Ceahlau massif (Oriental Carpathians). The fauna of the surrounding woods is very rich: carpathian stag, brown bear, wild boar, black goat. Ceahlău Massif
The Ceahlău Massif () is one of the most famous mountains of Romania. It is part of the Bistrița Mountains range of the Eastern Carpathians division, in Neamț County, in the Moldavia region. The two most important peaks are Toaca (1904 m elevation) and Ocolașul Mare (1907 m elevation). It is bounded to the east by the river Bistrița and Lake Bicaz, to the south by the river Bicaz. From the south, the main access point is the village of Izvorul Muntelui, located 12 km north from the town of Bicaz. To the north, Mount Ceahlău is also accessible from Durău. Poiana Teiului
Poiana Teiului is a Commune in Romania, commune in Neamț County, Western Moldavia, Romania. It is composed of eleven villages: Călugăreni, Dreptu, Galu, Petru Vodă, Pârâul Fagului, Poiana Largului, Poiana Teiului, Roșeni, Ruseni, Săvinești, and Topoliceni. The village of Poiana Largului is located at the north end of Lake Bicaz, at the junction of several national roads (, , and ). It has a viaduct, erected over the last section of the lake. Bicaz
Bicaz () is a town in Neamț County, Western Moldavia, Romania situated in the eastern Carpathian Mountains near the confluence of the Bicaz and Bistrița Rivers and near Lake Bicaz, an artificial lake formed by the Bicaz Dam on the Bistrița. Bicaz used to be a border town until 1918. Six villages are administered by the town: Capșa, Dodeni, Izvoru Alb, Izvoru Muntelui, Potoci, and Secu. Economy Before the construction of the dam (1950–1960) the settlement was just a mountain village in Eastern Carpathians where the main economic activity was timber harvesting. By tradition, the tree trunks were linked together, forming a raft (''pluta''); a raftman () used to drive the raft on the Bistrița river downstream to wood processing facilities in Piatra Neamț.
