Dundela Football Club, nicknamed "The Duns" is a semi-professional, Northern Ireland, Northern Irish Association football, football club from Belfast, currently playing in the NIFL Championship, and plays its home matches at Wilgar Park. The club's colours are green and white. The home kit has green shirts, green shorts and green socks, whilst the away kit is all red. History Dundela Football Club was formed in 1895 from employees of a local dairy owned by the Agnew family and members of a local harriers' club. Wilgar Park has been the home to the club since 1900. The park lies in the heartland of east Belfast, in a suburb named Strandtown. Its capacity is approximately 1,200. The venue is nicknamed "The Hen Run". 2017–18 NIFL Premier Intermediate League
The 2017–18 NIFL Premier Intermediate League was the second season of the NIFL Premier Intermediate League, the third tier of the Northern Ireland Football League - the national football league in Northern Ireland. It ran from 12 August 2017 to 4 May 2018 and Dundela were crowned as champions, winning promotion to the 2018–19 NIFL Championship. Teams Twelve teams competed in the league. Jackie Vernon (footballer)
John Joseph Vernon (26 September 1918 – 24 August 1981) also referred to as Jackie Vernon, was an Irish association football, footballer who played for, among others, Belfast Celtic F.C., Belfast Celtic and West Bromwich Albion F.C., West Bromwich Albion. Vernon was a List of dual Irish international footballers, dual international and played for both Ireland teams – the Ireland national football team (1882–1950), IFA XI and the Republic of Ireland national football team, FAI XI. He also played on two occasions for a Great Britain XI. Married to Jean McKillen. Both buried Milltown Cemetery Belfast (Q519B). Matty Burrows
Matthew Burrows (born 15 October 1985) is a former professional football player from Northern Ireland who played as a midfielder. Burrows scored a jumping backheel volley goal against Portadown to seal victory for Glentoran in injury-time of a match on 5 October 2010. The "astonishing goal" came from the back of Burrows' heel from 16 yards out in mid-air. The goal received international acclaim, with millions viewing the goal on YouTube, and football programmes around the world broadcasting the goal to audiences unfamiliar with the Irish league. Billy Caskey
Billy Caskey (born 10 December 1954) is a retired professional football midfielder from Northern Ireland. He played in the Irish Football League, Football League, North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. He also earned seven caps, scoring one goal, with the Northern Ireland national team between 1978 and 1982. Club career Born in Belfast, Caskey began his career with Crusaders and East Belfast before moving to Glentoran in October 1974. Caskey played for Glentoran until 1978. He was named as the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association Player of the Year for the 1976/77 season. In the summer of 1978, the team sent him on loan to the Tulsa Roughnecks of the North American Soccer League. When he returned to Glentoran in the fall, the team sent him and Victor Moreland to Derby County for £90,000. He played two seasons for Derby County, going on loan with Tulsa in 1979. Alexander S. McMordie (born 12 August 1946), known as Eric McMordie, is a Northern Irish former professional footballer. An attacking midfielder or inside forward, his career lasted from 1965 to 1978. He played for Middlesbrough, York City and Hartlepool United making a total of 339 league appearances, scoring 32 goals. He also represented the Northern Ireland national team on 21 occasions. Career Early days McMordie was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was spotted by Manchester United playing as a junior in Belfast and was invited for a two-week trial at Old Trafford in July 1961. David Lyner
David Lyner (9 January 1893 – 5 December 1973) was a Northern Irish footballer who played as an outside forward for various clubs in Northern Ireland, England and Scotland in the 1910s and 1920s, including Distillery, Glentoran, Manchester United and Kilmarnock. Career Club career Born in Belfast, Lyner began his career with local club Owen O'Cork before moving across town to play for Distillery. The Northern Ireland Football League (abbreviated to NIFL), formerly known as and still commonly referred to as the Irish League, is the national football league of Northern Ireland.
