Drăgănești-Olt
Drăgănești-Olt () is a town in Olt County, Muntenia, Romania. The first document mentioning it is from 1526. Drăgănești-Olt became a town in 1968. The town administers one village, Comani. Geography The town is situated on the Wallachian Plain. It lies on the left bank of the river Olt, at an altitude of approximately . It is located in the central part of Olt County, at a distance of from the county seat, Slatina, and north of Turnu Măgurele. The town is crossed by county road DJ546, which meets national road DN6 a few miles to the south. The Drăgănești-Olt train station serves the CFR Line 900, which runs from Bucharest, to the east, to Timișoara and the border with Serbia to the west. Olt County () is a county (județ) of Romania on the border with Bulgaria, in the Historical regions of Romania, historical regions of Oltenia and Muntenia (the regions are separated by the Olt River, Olt river). History On 24 August 2017, the Olt County Council decided to hold 2018 Olt County name referendum, a name referendum on 15 October 2017 for the proposal to change the county name to "Olt-Romanați County, Romanați". Constantin Tobescu
Constantin Tobescu (January 28, 1893 – December 2, 1951) was a Romanian general of the Romanian Gendarmerie (''Jandarmeria'') during World War II, deserter during the King Michael's Coup of August 23, 1944, one of the principal executors of Ion Antonescu's racial purity policies. Youth and studies Constantin Tobescu was born in 1893 in the village of Comani, Olt County, Kingdom of Romania. In 1911, after completing 7 years of high school, Tobescu enrolled in the Military School for Infantry, which he completed in 1913, being promoted 2nd lieutenant. He immediately took part in the operations of the Second Balkan War. Daniel Oprița
Daniel Ionel Oprița (born 10 August 1981) is a Romanian professional football manager and former player, currently in charge of Liga II club CSA Steaua București. Club career Oprița began his career at Minerul Moldova Nouă in 2000 in Divizia C, the third tier of the Romanian football, being transferred to CSM Reșița in 2001 in Divizia B, the second tier of the Romanian football pyramid. In 2002, he moved on to Steaua București, making the step up to Divizia A in the top tier of the Romanian football. Oprița spent the next seven years of his career in Bucharest winning the Divizia A in 2004–05 and 2005–06 and also the Supercupa României in 2005–06. Beno Arbel
Been Arbel (; 20 January 1939 – 9 April 2013) was an Israeli mathematician and historian of mathematics who worked as Professor of Mathematics at Tel Aviv University. Biography Born in Drăgănești-Olt, Romania, Arbel began his academic studies at the University of Bucharest, which he continued at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem upon immigrating to Israel in 1961. He completed his baccalaureate in mathematics and physics there in 1963, and his master's degree in mathematics in April 1965 (under the supervision of Aryeh Dvoretzky), a month after which he enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces. Arbel received his Ph.D. in 1987 from the Hebrew University under Marcel Herzog, and went on to teach at Tel Aviv University, Kibbutzim College, Beit Berl Academic College, and the Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yafo. Olt (river)
The Olt ( Romanian and Hungarian; ; or ', , ''Alytos'') is a river in Romania. It is long, and its basin area is . It is the longest river flowing exclusively through Romania. Its average discharge at the mouth is . It originates in the Hășmaș Mountains of the eastern Carpathian Mountains, near Bălan, rising close to the headwaters of the river Mureș. The Olt flows through the Romanian counties of Harghita, Covasna, Brașov, Sibiu, Vâlcea, and Olt. The river was known as ''Alutus'' or ''Aluta'' in Roman antiquity. Olt County and the historical province of Oltenia are named after the river. Sfântu Gheorghe, Râmnicu Vâlcea and Slatina are the main cities on the river Olt.
