Dr. Maurice Curé State College
The Dr Maurice Curé State College is a national secondary school in Mauritius, located in Vacoas. It is known for its annual high-rate achievement in the O-level and A-level Cambridge examinations certificate. It is recognised as one of the best secondary schools due to these exceptional annual results. Many students of the institution have been classed at national and international level in various different subjects. The college is named after Maurice Curé. Vacoas-Phoenix () also known as French language, French: ''Villes Jumelles'' (Twin Cities), is a town in Mauritius, located in the Plaines Wilhems District, the eastern part also lies in the Moka District. The town is administered by the Municipal Council of Vacoas-Phoenix. The town lies between Quatre Bornes and Curepipe. History The towns of Vacoas and Phoenix fused in 1963. Vacoas-Phoenix fully became a municipality in 1968. Politics For the Elections in Mauritius, general elections, the town is classified as the No 15 constituency known as ''La Caverne and Phoenix'' and the No 16 ''Vacoas and Floreal'' constituency. Sports The football team of the town is the AS de Vacoas-Phoenix, they play in the Mauritian League, the top football division of the island nation. Maurice Curé (1886-1977) was one of the founders of the Labour Party in Mauritius Mauritius, officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island country in the Indian Ocean, about off the southeastern coast of East Africa, east of Madagascar. He completed his secondary education at Royal College Curepipe where he was a "Laureate" in 1906, along with his peers Fernand Maingard and E. Osmond Barnard. He travelled to England at the age of 20 to study medicine under scholarship. Political career before launching the Labour Party Soon after returning to Mauritius in 1913 Curé joined Dr Eugène Laurent's party ''Action Libérale'' and as a result he was appointed as Medical Doctor of the Municipality of Port Louis.
