Doğan Özgüden
Doğan Özgüden (born 1936 in Kalecik, Ankara) is a Turkish journalist and publisher. A former editor of '' Akşam'' (1964–1966), he has been based in Belgium since 1974, having left Turkey after the 1971 military coup under threat of over 300 years in prison for his publications. With Info-Türk co-founder Inci Tugsavul he was awarded the 2006 ''Ayse Zarakolu Freedom of Thought Prize'' by the Human Rights Association of Turkey for Info-Türk's journalism. Career Özgüden worked at a variety of Turkish newspapers from 1952 to 1964, before becoming editor-in-chief of Turkish daily newspaper '' Akşam'' (1964–1966). A member of the Workers Party of Turkey (TIP), he was elected to the party's central committee in 1964. Together with Inci Tugsavul, Özgüden co-founded the Ant Publishing House in 1967, publishing the weekly ''Ant'' as well as a variety of books. Kalecik, Ankara
Kalecik is a municipality and district of Ankara Province, Turkey. Its area is 1,110 km2, and its population is 12,794 (2022). Its elevation is . Kalecik stands on a plain with the eastern boundary formed by the River Kızılırmak while there are mountains to the south and the west. This agricultural district is known for its wine; other major crops include sugar beet and grains. The popular grape variety Kalecik Karası grows successfully near the Kızılırmak and is used to make some of Turkey's best red wine. History The area has a history going back to the Hittites and even never earlier (4000 BC). In the Ottoman Empire period this was a thriving town recorded by the 17th-century traveler Evliya Çelebi as being a trading city with tanneries, coppersmiths, and weavers. IFEX (organization)
IFEX, formerly International Freedom of Expression Exchange, is a global network of more than 119 independent non-governmental organisations that work at a local, national, regional, or international level to defend and promote freedom of expression as a human right. History IFEX was first proposed in 1992 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, by a group of 12 non-governmental organisations who met to discuss how they could collaborate on responding to free expression violations around the world. The meeting was organised by the Canadian Committee to Protect Journalists (now Canadian Journalists for Free Expression). ''Akşam'' (''Evening'') is a Turkish newspaper founded in 1918, owned by Zeki Yeşildağ's Türk Medya Grup (T Medya Yatırım San. ve Tic. AŞ.) since 2013. In 2013 it had a circulation of around 100,000.
