Dowdell's Knob
Dowdell's Knob is a prominent mountain in Harris County, Georgia. It is the highest point in Harris County at above sea level and the highest point on the Pine Mountain Range in the area. It is often referred to as a historical spot where former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt would dine occasionally. He had a brick oven and picnic area constructed on this mountain for his use during his visits to nearby Warm Springs. Dowdell's Knob is located south of Atlanta and north of Columbus. Shiloh, Harris County, Georgia
Shiloh is a city on the northeastern edge of Harris County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Columbus, Georgia–Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the population was 402. History A post office called Shiloh was established in 1874. The community was named after the local Shiloh Baptist Church, which in turn took its name from Shiloh, a place mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Shiloh in 1961. Pine Mountain Range
The Pine Mountain Range is a long ridge in Meriwether County, Georgia, Harris County, Georgia, and Talbot County, Georgia. The highest altitudes in all three of these west Georgia counties can be found along the range. The Pine Mountain Range is part of a larger geological feature known as the Pine Mountain terrane, which extends into eastern Alabama. State Route 190 (SR 190) is a state highway that runs west-east mostly through F. D. Roosevelt State Park and Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site. It is known as Scenic Heights Road and Pine Mountain Highway. It connects the Pine Mountain area and Manchester. It parallels the Pine Mountain Range for much of its length. Warm Springs is a city in Meriwether County, Georgia, United States. The population was 425 at the 2010 census. History Warm Springs, originally named Bullochville (after the Bulloch family, which began after Stephen Bullock moved to Meriwether County in 1806 from Edgecombe County, North Carolina), first came to prominence in the 19th century as a spa town, because of its mineral springs which flow constantly at nearly 90 °F (32 °C). Residents of Georgia, particularly Savannah, began spending vacations at Bullochville in the late 18th century as a way to escape yellow fever, finding the number of warm springs in the vicinity of Bullochville very attractive.
