Doug Scamman Jr.
Walter Douglas Scamman Jr. (born November 26, 1941) is a Republican former Speaker of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from Stratham, New Hampshire. Scamman was born in Concord, New Hampshire in 1941, the son of Doug Scamman Sr., who served in the New Hampshire House from 1942 to 1947 and 1949 to 1958, and as speaker in 1957. He attended the University of New Hampshire with the help of scholarships and graduated with a degree in political science in 1964. He eventually ran for office and became a state representative and then Speaker of the House in the New Hampshire Legislature. He married Stella Emanuel in 1963 and has four children. Scamman and his wife, Stella, served as New Hampshire state campaign co-chairs for John Kasich's 2016 presidential campaign. He encouraged Kasich to run again in 2020. Scamman Farm
Scamman Farm is a historic farmstead at New Hampshire Route 108, Portsmouth Avenue in Stratham, New Hampshire. The farm was established by members of the Scamman family in the 1660s, and includes a barn dating to the mid-18th century, believed to be one of the oldest in the state, and a Greek Revival farmhouse dating to 1836. The property, now a subset of the family's original holdings, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. A fire that began shortly before 11 p.m. on May 10, 2021, burned down one barn on the property and killed an estimated 300 chickens. Through the efforts of firefighters, the mid-18th century barn suffered only minor damage. Days later, the family stated that they would rebuild the barn that burned down. The similarly named Scammon Farm Historic District, also located in Stratham and owned by a different branch of the family, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2023. He earned 154 delegates and won only one contest, his home state, Ohio. Kasich suspended his campaign on May 4, 2016, one day after becoming the last major challenger to Donald Trump for the nomination.
