Dorothie Littlefield
Dorothie Littlefield (1912–1953) was an American ballet dancer, She was the daughter of the dancer Caroline Littlefield (c. 1882–1957) and the sister of the dancer Catherine Littlefield (1904–1951). Littlefield was born on September 16, 1912, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, She was taught to dance by her mother. In the 1930s she taught at the children's division of the newly established School of American Ballet. The following year she left to work with her mother and sister in the ''Littlefield Ballet'' in Philadelphia. In 1937 she danced the lead in ''Barn Dance''. Catherine Littlefield
Catherine Littlefield (September 16, 1905November 19, 1951) was an American ballet dancer, choreographer, ballet teacher, and director. She founded the Philadelphia Ballet (originally the Littlefield Ballet) in Philadelphia in 1935. It was the first American ballet company to tour Europe and the first to present a full-length (or three-act plus prologue) version of ''The Sleeping Beauty (ballet), The Sleeping Beauty'' in the United States. In addition to producing American-themed ballets such as ''Barn Dance'', ''Terminal'', ''Cafe Society'' and ''Ladies' Better Dresses'', Littlefield choreographed Broadway musicals and Sonja Henie's professional ice skating shows. An ice show is an entertainment production which is primarily performed by ice skaters. The major ice shows were founded between 1936 and 1943, when professional figure skaters began to appear in shows, in hotels, at fairs, and "at any place a sheet of ice could be set up" since the beginning of the 20th century in North America and Europe. They were produced and toured North America, Europe, and throughout the world for many years in the years following World War II. According to figure skating historian James R. Hines, ice shows "took spectacular skating to large audiences, contributing to the development of the sport's first major fan base".
