Groundhog Day (film)
''Groundhog Day'' is a 1993 American fantasy romantic comedy film directed by Harold Ramis from a screenplay by him and Danny Rubin. Starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, and Chris Elliott, it tells the story of a cynical television weatherman covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, who becomes trapped in a time loop, forcing him to relive February2 repeatedly. The film also features Stephen Tobolowsky, Brian Doyle-Murray, Marita Geraghty, Angela Paton, Rick Ducommun, Rick Overton, and Robin Duke in supporting roles. Rubin conceived the outline of ''Groundhog Day'' in the early 1990s. He wrote it as a spec script to gain meetings with producers for other work. It eventually came to the attention of Ramis, who worked with Rubin to make his idea less dark in tone and more palatable to a general audience by enhancing the comedy. After being cast, Murray clashed with Ramis over the script; Murray wanted to focus on the philosophical elemen ...

48 Doris
48 Doris is one of the largest main belt asteroids. It was discovered on 19 September 1857 by Hermann Goldschmidt from his balcony in Paris. To find a name for the object, Jacques Babinet of the Academy of Sciences created a shortlist and asked the geologist Élie de Beaumont to make the selection. De Beaumont chose Doris, after an Oceanid in Greek mythology. Since Doris was discovered on the same night as 49 Pales, de Beaumont suggested naming the two "The Twins". Physical characteristics An occultation An occultation is an event that occurs when one object is hidden from the observer by another object that passes between them. The term is often used in astronomy, but can also refer to any situation in which an object in the foreground blocks f ... on 19 March 1981 suggested a diameter of 219±25 km. DORIS (satellite System)
DORIS is a French satellite system used for the determination of satellite orbits (e.g. TOPEX/Poseidon) and for positioning. The name is an acronym of "Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning Integrated by Satellite" or, in French, ''Détermination d'Orbite et Radiopositionnement Intégré par Satellite''. Principle Ground-based radio beacons emit a signal which is picked up by receiving satellites. This is in reverse configuration to other GNSS, in which the transmitters are space-borne and receivers are in majority near the surface of the Earth. A frequency shift of the signal occurs that is caused by the movement of the satellite ( Doppler effect). From this observation satellite orbits, ground positions, as well as other parameters can be derived. Organization DORIS is a French system which was initiated and is maintained by the French Space Agency (CNES). It is operated from Toulouse. Ground segment The ground segment includes about 50-60 ground stations, equ ...

DORIS (particle Accelerator)
The Double-Ring Storage Facility (DORIS) was an electron–positron storage ring at the German national laboratory DESY. It was DESY's second circular accelerator and its first storage ring, with a circumference of nearly 300 m. After construction was completed in 1974, DORIS provided collision experiments with electrons and their antiparticles at energies of 3.5 GeV per beam. In 1978, the energy of the beams was raised to 5 GeV each. With evidence of "excited charmonium states", DORIS made an important contribution to the process of proving the existence of heavy quarks. In the same year, the first tests of X-ray lithography were performed at DESY. In 1987, the ARGUS detector at the DORIS storage ring was the first experiment to observe the conversion of a B meson into its antiparticle, the anti-B meson. The Hamburg Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory HASYLAB was commissioned in 1980 to use synchrotron radiation, which was generated at DORIS as a byproduct, f ...

Doris (sailing Yacht)
''Doris'' is a sailing yacht, which has also been known as ''Astarte'', ''Huntress'', and ''Vayu'', in Deep River, Connecticut that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. She was designed by Nathanael Herreshoff, who designed five America's Cup defender yachts and who also was the main architect of the America's Cup rule change called the Universal Rule. That rule allowed for displacement as well as length and sail area to be included in a formula defining yacht eligibility, and enabled more "sea-kindly" and roomier yachts to be competitive. The vessel known as Doris was constructed with a primary emphasis on speed and novelty, representing an avant-garde design that was highly appreciated in her era. She participated in a plethora of prestigious regattas and races, including the Annual Cruise of the New York Yacht Club and the Newport-Bermuda Race, showcasing her remarkable agility and endurance. As the years went by, Doris was passed from owner to ...

Doris (song)
''Suicide Silence'' is the fifth studio album by American deathcore band Suicide Silence, released on February 24, 2017 by Nuclear Blast. The album is a notable departure from their deathcore signature musical style, pursuing a more 1990s influenced nu metal sound. Critical reviews were mixed, while fan response was generally negative. It is also the last to feature Alex Lopez on drums before his departure from the band in April 2022. Background and musical style The album shows a huge shift from the band's deathcore style that they're known for to a nu metal style reminiscent of bands such as Korn, Deftones and Coal Chamber. The album was first announced to the public with headlines from coverage sites in December 2016 that the band claimed it would contain "mostly clean vocals", a vocal style that the band have largely avoided throughout most of their career. Bassist Dan Kenny and drummer Alex Lopez commented: "it’s the first time ocalist Eddie Hermidahas ever been confiden ...

Doris (opera)
''Doris'' is a "comedy opera" in three acts by Alfred Cellier, with a libretto by B. C. Stephenson. After the phenomenal success of Cellier and Stephenson's ''Dorothy (opera), Dorothy'' (1886), the pair were hoping for another big hit. ''Doris'' turned out to be only modestly successful. It opened at the Lyric Theatre (London), Lyric Theatre in London on 20 April 1889 and ran for 202 performances and was produced, like ''Dorothy'', by Henry J. Leslie. It starred Arthur Williams (actor), Arthur Williams, Ben Davies (tenor), Ben Davies, Alice Barnett, Hayden Coffin, Furneaux Cook and John Le Hay. The title character was first played by opera and concert singer Annette Albu (1858–1927), a fine singer, but she was not a great comic actress and not considered pretty; after two months, with the show already flagging, Leslie replaced her with his star from ''Dorothy'', Marie Tempest.Kurt Gänzl, Gänzl, Kurt"When a girl isn't pretty ... but she can sing!"
