Euctenidiacea
The Doridina, common name dorid nudibranchs, are a Taxonomy (biology), taxonomic suborder of sea snails or sea slug, slugs, marine (ocean), marine gastropod molluscs in the order (biology), order Nudibranchia. Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) rejected the name Anthobranchia on the grounds that it also included ''Onchidium'' at the time of original publication. Doridina is equivalent and used in the latest classification.Bouchet P., Rocroi J.P., Hausdorf B., Kaim A., Kano Y., Nützel A., Parkhaev P., Schrödl M. & Strong E.E. (2017). Revised classification, nomenclator and typification of gastropod and monoplacophoran families. Malacologia. 61(1-2): 1-526. A morphological Phylogenetics, phylogenetic study, published in 2000, by Wägele & Willan showed that the subclade Gnathodoridacea (= Bathydoridoidea) and the subclade Doridacea (= Phanerobranchia + Cryptobranchia + Porostomata) each form a monophyletic group. In a later study, published in 2002, A. Valdés concluded that the superfamili ...

Nudibranch
Nudibranchs () are a group of soft-bodied marine gastropod molluscs, belonging to the order Nudibranchia, that shed their shells after their larval stage. They are noted for their often extraordinary colours and striking forms, and they have been given colourful nicknames to match, such as "clown", "marigold", "splendid", "dancer", "dragon", and "sea rabbit". About 3,000 species of nudibranchs are known.Ocean Portal (2017)A Collage of Nudibranch Colors Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Retrieved 17 April 2018. The word ''nudibranch'' comes from the Latin 'naked' and the Ancient Greek () ' gills'. Nudibranchs are often casually called sea slugs, as they are a family of opisthobranchs (sea slugs), within the phylum Mollusca (molluscs), but many sea slugs belong to several taxonomic groups that are not closely related to nudibranchs. A number of these other sea slugs, such as the photosynthetic '' Sacoglossa'' and the colourful Aglajidae, are often confused wi ...

Phyllidiidae
Phyllidiidae is a family (biology), family of sea slugs, dorid nudibranchs, marine (ocean), marine gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Phyllidioidea. This family is within the clade Doridacea (according to the Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005), taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). Distribution Most species occur in the tropical Indo-Pacific region, but a few species have been found in the tropical Atlantic Ocean and in the Mediterranean. Description The Mantle (mollusc), mantle of these oval nudibranchs is flattened dorsoventrally and its dorsal surface is covered with hard, colored tubercles. This mantle is decorated with contrasting colors and patterns as warning signals to predators. The lamellate rhinophores can be retracted. Like other dorid nudibranchs, all species have a dorsal anus, except for the species in the genus ''Fryeria'' where the anus is posteroventral and protrusible. In contrast with the other nudibranchs from the clade ...

Doridoidea
Doridoidea, commonly known as dorid nudibranchs (and previously known as the taxon Cryptobranchia), are a Taxonomy (biology), taxonomic Taxonomic rank, superfamily of medium to large, shell-less sea slugs, Marine (ocean), marine gastropod mollusc, mollusks in the clade Doridacea, included in the clade Nudibranchia. Etymology The word "Doridoidea" comes from the generic name ''Doris'', which was in turn copied from the name of the sea nymph, Doris (mythology), Doris, in Greek mythology. Families According to the Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005), families within the superfamily Doridoidea include: * Actinocyclidae O'Donoghue, 1929 * Chromodorididae Rudolph Bergh, Bergh, 1891 * Discodorididae Bergh, 1891 * Dorididae Rafinesque, 1815 Changes later than 2005 The family Cadlinidae Bergh, 1891 was considered a synonym of the Chromodorididae. Research by R.F. Johnson in 2011 has shown that ''Cadlina'' does not belong to the family Chromodorididae. She has therefore ...

Mandeliidae
Mandela's nudibranch, ''Mandelia mirocornata'', is a species of sea slug, a dorid nudibranch. It is a marine gastropod mollusc, the only member of the genus ''Mandelia'' and the family Mandeliidae. The genus and family name honor Nelson Mandela, the former President of South Africa. Distribution This species has so far only been found around the southern African coast from the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula to Port Elizabeth in 10–400 m of water. It is probably endemic. Description Mandela's nudibranch has a bumpy dirty white to brown skin. It has black spots scattered over the notum. Its gills and rhinophores are large and creamy-coloured. The rhinophores are perfoliate, but are oblong rather than round. The animal may also have irregular brown stripes rather than spots on the notum, radiating out to the margins. It may reach a total length of 70 mm.ZSILAVECZ, G. 2007. ''Nudibranchs of the Cape Peninsula and False Bay''. Distinguishing features The body is di ...
