Doomsday (2008 Film)
''Doomsday'' is a 2008 science fiction action film written and directed by Neil Marshall. The film takes place in the future in Scotland, which has been quarantined because of a deadly virus. When the virus is found in London, political leaders send a team led by Major Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra) to Scotland to find a possible cure. Sinclair's team runs into two types of survivors: marauders and medieval knights. ''Doomsday'' was conceived by Marshall based on the idea of futuristic soldiers facing medieval knights. In producing the film, he drew inspiration from various movies, including ''Mad Max'', ''Escape from New York'' and ''28 Days Later''. Marshall had a budget three times the size of his previous two films, ''The Descent'' and ''Dog Soldiers'', and the director filmed the larger-scale ''Doomsday'' in Scotland and South Africa. The film was released in the United States and Canada on 14 March 2008 and in the United Kingdom on 9 May 2008. It received mixed reviews from c ...

Doomsday (MF Doom Song)
"Doomsday" is a song by British-American rapper MF Doom which appears on his debut studio album '' Operation: Doomsday''. Produced by Doom himself, it contains samples of " Kiss of Life" by Sade and "Poetry" by Boogie Down Productions, as well as additional vocals by Pebbles the Invisible Girl. Background In an interview with '' XXL'', MF Doom stated about the song: That's a while ago, so I'm trying to remember what inspired it. It's really just normally what I'd be talking about. I kinda do bragging rap. I do the kind of hip-hop where the MC is more pointing out things and accentuating certain things that have been forgotten at some stage. So I'm really just explaining hip-hop rules. Rules about rhyming. Typical shit that you would normally do or don't do. That's basically it. Regarding the lyrics "Ever since the womb 'til I'm back where my brother went / That's what my tomb will say / Right above my government, Dumile", Doom said: "Really, that's like saying my word is bond ...

Global Catastrophic Risk
A global catastrophic risk or a doomsday scenario is a hypothetical event that could damage human well-being on a global scale, endangering or even destroying modern civilization. Existential risk is a related term limited to events that could cause full-blown human extinction or permanently and drastically curtail humanity's existence or potential. In the 21st century, a number of academic and non-profit organizations have been established to research global catastrophic and existential risks, formulate potential mitigation measures, and either advocate for or implement these measures. Definition and classification Defining global catastrophic risks The term global catastrophic risk "lacks a sharp definition", and generally refers (loosely) to a risk that could inflict "serious damage to human well-being on a global scale". Humanity has suffered large catastrophes before. Some of these have caused serious damage but were only local in scope—e.g. the Black Death ma ...
