The Donna–Río Bravo International Bridge, also known as the Alliance International Bridge, is an international bridge that spans the Rio Grande, providing a crossing of the Mexico–United States border between Donna, Texas and Río Bravo, Tamaulipas. The bridge was opened to traffic on December 14, 2010. Only non-commercial vehicles are permitted to use the bridge, but there are plans to open it to commercial traffic. On the U.S. side, the bridge connects with Farm to Market Road 493. Donna is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. Donna is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas. The population was 16,797 at the 2020 census. History Donna is in southeastern Hidalgo County, east of McAllen, in territory that was granted to Lino Cabazos as part of the La Blanca land grant on May 19, 1834, by the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The Cabazos family inhabited the area for at least twenty years after taking possession of the land, and their descendants continued to live in the area into the twentieth century.
