Donald is an unincorporated community located in the town of Pershing, Taylor County, Wisconsin, United States, where the Canadian National Railway crosses County Highway M. History Donald was founded in 1903, where the Fountain-Campbell Lumber Company built a sawmill on the Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and Northeastern Railway (a.k.a. the Omaha). The community was named for Donald Campbell, the son of the president of Fountain-Campbell. Before that, the spot was called ''Fountain Spur'', for the other principal of that company. A post office was established at Donald in 1904, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1942. Around 1905 the J.S. There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris. It was an unorganized part of the Northwest Territory until 1802 when all of the land from St. Louis north to the Canadian border was organized as St. Clair County. When Illinois was admitted to the union in 1818, Wisconsin became part of the Territory of Michigan and divided into two counties: Brown County in the northeast along Lake Michigan and Crawford County in the southwest along the Mississippi River. Taylor County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,913. Its county seat is Medford. History The earliest recorded event in Taylor county probably occurred in 1661, when Wisconsin was claimed by New France. A band of Huron Indians from eastern Ontario had fled the Iroquois and taken refuge near the headwaters of the Black River, probably around Lake Chelsea in the northeast part of the county. Father René Menard, a French Jesuit priest who had travelled up the Great Lakes as far as Keweenaw Bay in upper Michigan, heard that these Hurons were starving. He decided to try to reach them to baptize them, despite his own weak health and scant supplies. Pershing is a town in Taylor County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 180 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Donald is located in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.8 square miles (92.8 km2), of which 35.7 square miles (92.4 km2) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km2) (0.45%) is water. The water consists mostly of man-made flowages in the Pershing Wildlife Area, and the Fisher River, which crosses Pershing from east to west.
