Domenico Beccafumi
Domenico di Pace Beccafumi (1486May 18, 1551) was an Italian Renaissance-Mannerist painter active predominantly in Siena. He is considered one of the last undiluted representatives of the Sienese school of painting. Biography Domenico was born in Montaperti, near Siena, the son of Giacomo di Pace, a peasant who worked on the estate of Lorenzo Beccafumi. Seeing his talent for drawing, Lorenzo adopted him, and commended him to learn painting from Mechero, a lesser Sienese artist. In 1509 he travelled to Rome, where he learned from the artists who had just done their first work in the Vatican, but soon returned to Siena. However, while the Roman forays of two Sienese artists of roughly his generation (Il Sodoma and Peruzzi) had imbued them with elements of the Umbrian-Florentine Classical style, Beccafumi's style remains, in striking ways, provincial. Self-Portrait (Beccafumi)
''Self-Portrait'' is a c. 1525–1530 oil painting by Domenico Beccafumi, using a support of card pasted onto canvas. It forms part of the collection of artist's self-portraits at the Uffizi in Florence, Italy. It entered the gallery in 1682 by which time it had been expanded on all four sides to fit a frame or to make it a pendent to another work. Its frame misidentifies it as a self-portrait by Giovanni Battista Passeri, Passeri, it regained its present attribution in the second half of the 20th century after previous critical neglect. However, no other portrayals of the painter survive for comparison and so it may be a sketch for a portrait of another man rather than a self-portrait. Trinity Triptych
The Trinity Triptych is a 1513 oil-on-panel painting by the Italian Mannerist painter Domenico Beccafumi, now in the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Siena. Beccafumi's earliest surviving painting, it was produced as the altarpiece for the Cappella del Manto in the Santa Maria della Scala hospital complex, where it remained until 1818. This influenced the choice of Cosmas and Damian as two of the accompanying saints, flanking John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. The artist also produced a fresco cycle for that chapel, of which only ''Joachim and Anna Meeting at the Golden Gate'' survives. Pinacoteca Nazionale, Siena
The Pinacoteca Nazionale is a national museum in Siena, Tuscany, Italy. Inaugurated in 1932, it houses especially late medieval and Renaissance paintings from Italian artists. It is housed in the Brigidi and Buonsignori palaces in the city's center: the former, built in the 14th century, it is traditionally identified as the Pannocchieschi family's residence. The Palazzo Bichi-Buonsignori, built in the 15th century, was until recently thought to have a 19th-century neo-medieval façade based on the city's Palazzo Pubblico; however, restoration in 2022 revealed that it is mostly original. San Martino is a Roman Catholic church located on Via del Porrione, in the Terzo San Martino (named after this church) in central in Siena, region of Tuscany, Italy. Adjacent to the church is the Renaissance style Logge del Papa erected in 1462 by commission by Pope Pius II Piccolomini. History A church at the site was present by the 12th century, but it was rebuilt and enlarged in the 16th century. The Baroque façade was built in 1613 and the bell tower completed in 1738.
