Ixtonton
Ixtonton is a Maya archaeological site in the department of Petén in northern Guatemala.Laporte et al 1991, p.210. Ixtonton was the capital city of one of the four Maya kingdoms in the upper Mopan Valley. AD 800-900), with some evidence of continued activity into the Postclassic (c. 900–1521). El Chal is a municipality in the Guatemalan department of Petén, located approximately southeast of the departmental capital, Flores. Its name may derive from Itzaʼ ''chal'', "shawl", or ''aj-chal ja'', "clear water." Geography El Chal is located in the southern part of the Petén Basin. Poptún is a municipality in the El Petén department of Guatemala. Melchor De Mencos
Melchor de Mencos is a municipality in the Petén Department of Guatemala with population 23,813. It is situated on the eastern border with Belize, and is the only major border crossing from Guatemala to Belize. The city was established in April 1960. It is named after Sergeant Major Melchor de Mencos y Varón, who in 1754 journeyed with a tiny contingent of Spanish colonial troops from what is now Antigua, Guatemala to the coast of present-day Belize, there to combat English "pirates" who had settled that region and established a self-governing community. El Chal
El Chal is a pre-Columbian Maya archaeological site located in the upper San Juan River valley of the southeastern Petén Basin region, Guatemala. The site is situated in the municipality of El Chal, lying some to the south of the municipal seat also called El Chal. El Chal was occupied from approximately 300 BC through to 1300 AD (from the Late Preclassic through to the Early Postclassic Periods of Mesoamerican chronology), although some Middle Preclassic activity has been identified in the acropolis. Ixtutz
Ixtutz () was an important Classic Period Maya city located south of Ixkun in southeastern Petén, Guatemala. Ixtutz is situated in the valley of the Poxte River in the western portion of the Maya Mountains. The site was inhabited during the Preclassic Period to the end of the Terminal Classic Period of Mesoamerican chronology and dominated the western portion of the Dolores valley.
