Djakadam
Djakadam (foaled 12 May 2009) is a French-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who competes in National Hunt races. Background Djakadam is a bay gelding bred in France by Richard Corveller. He was sired by Saint des Saints, a top class French hurdler who went on to become a very successful sire of jumpers: his other winners have included Storm of Saintly (Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris) and Quito de la Roque (JNwine.com Champion Chase). Djakadam's mother Rainbow Crest was a moderate racehorse but a descendant of the British broodmare Dodoma, who was the ancestor of many major winners including Shergar. Djakadam was originally sent into training in France with Arnaud Chaille-Chaille. John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase
The John Durkan Memorial Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland. It is run over a distance of about 2 miles and 4 furlongs {2 miles 4 furlongs and 40 yards, or 4,060 metres) at Punchestown in December. The race was first run in 1968 and it was run over a distance of 2 miles until 1973. It has been run over the present distance since then apart from in 1993 and 1994, when it was run over 2 miles and 5 furlongs. The race was renamed in December 1998 in memory of John Durkan (1967-1998), an amateur jockey and assistant racehorse trainer who died of leukemia in January 1998. Killiney Novice Chase
The Killiney Novice Chase is a Grade 3 National Hunt chase in Ireland. It is currently run at Punchestown Racecourse in early January, over a distance of 2 miles and 4 furlongs. The race was run at Leopardstown Racecourse over a distance of 2 miles and 3 furlongs from its first running in 1995 to 2017. The race changed venues in 2018 due to the creation of the Leopardstown Dublin Festival. This new meeting "combines the feature races from Leopardstown's current three stand-alone meetings in late January and mid-February". Prior to 2010 the race was titled the Paddy Fitzpatrick Memorial Novice Chase. In 2010 it was called the MCR Chase, in 2011 it was called Tote Pick Six Killiney Novice Chase and in 2012 and 2013 the race was sponsored by Boylesports and run as the Boylesports.com Bet On Your Mobile Novice Chase. Thyestes Chase
The Thyestes Chase is a National Hunt handicap steeplechase run in Ireland. It takes place at Gowran Park, Gowran, County Kilkenny in January, over a distance of about 3 miles and 1 furlong (5,029 metres) and during the race there are 17 fences to be jumped. The race is usually contested by horses who go on to run in the Grand National and has been won in recent years by two horses who have gone on to win the Grand National, in Hedgehunter and Numbersixvalverde. The most famous winners of the race were Arkle (1964) and Flyingbolt (1966). It currently has a maximum field of 18 runners. The race is sponsored by bloodstock auctioneers Goffs. Ruby Walsh
Rupert Walsh (born 14 May 1979 in Kill, County Kildare, Ireland) is an Irish former jockey. He is the second child, and eldest son, of former champion amateur jockey Ted Walsh and his wife Helen. Walsh is the third most prolific winner in British and Irish jump racing history behind only Sir Anthony McCoy and Richard Johnson. Career Showing talent from an early age, Walsh won the Irish amateur title twice, in 1996/97 (aged 18) and 1997/98, before turning professional. He won the English Grand National in 2000 at his first attempt, aged 20, on Papillon, a horse trained by his father and owned by Mrs J Maxwell Moran. Father and son then went on to win the Irish Grand National with Commanche Court the same year. Tayto Hurdle
The Donohue Marquees Juvenile Hurdle is a Grade 2 National Hunt novice hurdle race in Ireland which is open to horses aged four years only. It is run at Fairyhouse over a distance of 2 miles (3,218 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year at the course's Easter Festival. The race was awarded Grade 3 status in 2008, later raised to Grade 2 in 2016. Prior to 2015 it was sponsored by Tayto, and in 2015 and 2016 it was sponsored by R E A Grimes Property Consultants. The sponsors of the 2017 and 2018 runnings were Avoca Handweavers and from 2019 to 2021 the race was sponsored by the Rathbarry and Glenview Studs. Since 2022 the sponsors are Donohue Marquees. Willie Mullins William Peter Mullins (born 15 September 1956) is an Irish racehorse trainer and former jockey. Career He commenced racehorse training in 1988 having previously worked as an assistant to his father Paddy Mullins and Jim Bolger. Willie is a former six times amateur champion jockey in Ireland, winning the 1983 Aintree Fox Hunters' Chase on Atha Cliath and the 1996 Cheltenham Bumper on Wither Or Which. He is the trainer of the 2005 Grand National winner Hedgehunter and the 2011 and 2013 Champion Hurdle winner Hurricane Fly and trained the horse, Vautour in the 2016 Ryanair Chase.
