Dirk Brouwer (Architect)
Dirk Brouwer (; 1899 in Alkmaar – 1941 in Overveen) was a Dutch architect. His father was a concierge at a local technical school. After three years of studies Dirk Brouwer learned from various architects and attended a course for Higher Architectural Education in Amsterdam. His buildings were designed according to the Amsterdam School and he cooperated with Willem Marinus Dudok, a notable assertor of Modernism, thus Brouwer's style was influenced. In 1938 he designed the backside and possibly also the dome light of the Bijenkorf department store in Amsterdam. He also built the HEMA store in Heerlen. Dirk Brouwer
Dirk Brouwer (; September 1, 1902 – January 31, 1966) was a Dutch-American astronomer. He received his PhD in 1927 at Leiden University under Willem de Sitter and then went to Yale University. From 1941 until 1966 he was editor of the ''Astronomical Journal''. He specialized in celestial mechanics and together with Gerald Clemence wrote the textbook ''Methods of Celestial Mechanics''. Heerlen (; li, Heële ) is a city and a municipality in the southeast of the Netherlands. It is the third largest settlement proper in the province of Limburg. Bijenkorf
De Bijenkorf (; literally, "the beehive") is a chain of high-end department stores in the Netherlands, with its flagship store on Dam Square in Amsterdam. The chain is owned by Selfridges Group, which also owns Britain's Selfridges and Ireland's Brown Thomas and Arnotts. It has been a member of the International Association of Department Stores from 1929 to 2012, with various CEOs acting as presidents of the Association over time.
