Diplomatic Service
Diplomatic service is the body of diplomats and foreign policy officers maintained by the government of a country to communicate with the governments of other countries. Diplomatic personnel obtain diplomatic immunity when they are accredited to other countries. Diplomatic services are often part of the larger civil service and sometimes a constituent part of the foreign ministry. Some intergovernmental organizations, such as the European Union, and some international non-state organizations, such as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, may also retain diplomatic services in other jurisdictions. A diplomat (from ; romanization, romanized ''diploma'') is a person appointed by a state (polity), state, International organization, intergovernmental, or Non-governmental organization, nongovernmental institution to conduct diplomacy with one or more other states or international organizations. The main functions of diplomats are representation and protection of the interests and nationals of the sending state; initiation and facilitation of strategic agreements, treaties and conventions; and promotion of information, trade and commerce, technology, and friendly relations. The Indian Foreign Service (IFS) is a diplomatic service and a Central Civil Services, central civil service of the Government of India, Government of the Republic of India under the Ministry of External Affairs (India), Ministry of External Affairs. Dual Accreditation
Dual accreditation is the practice in diplomacy of a country granting two separate responsibilities to a single diplomat. One prominent form of dual accreditation is for a diplomat to serve as the ambassador to two countries concurrently. For example, Luxembourg's ambassador to the United States is also its non-resident ambassador to Mexico and Nicaragua. Such an ambassador may sometimes be called Ambassador-at-Large. The Holy See refuses to accept dual accreditation with Italy, an assertion of sovereignty dating from the prisoner-in-the-Vatican dispute. For example, when Ireland closed its embassy to the Holy See in Rome, accreditation as Irish ambassador to the Holy See was given to a diplomat based at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin rather than to the Irish ambassador to Italy. Vatican Diplomatic Corps
The Holy See has long been recognised as a subject of international law and as an active participant in international relations. It is distinct from the city-state of the Vatican City, over which the Holy See has "full ownership, exclusive dominion, and sovereign authority and jurisdiction". The diplomatic activities of the Holy See are directed by the Secretariat of State (headed by the Cardinal Secretary of State), through the Section for Relations with States. The Latvian diplomatic service in exile () was the only governmental body of the Latvia, Republic of Latvia which continued its activities during the Nazi and Soviet occupation of Latvia in 1940, Soviet occupation of Latvia during 1940–1991. His Majesty's Diplomatic Service (HMDS) is the diplomatic service of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, dealing with foreign affairs and representing British interests overseas, as opposed to the Civil Service, which deals with domestic affairs. It employs around 14,000 people, roughly one-third of whom are crown servants working directly for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, either in London or abroad. Sri Lanka Overseas Service
The Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS) ( Sinhala: ශ්රී ලංකා විදේශ සේවය; śrī laṁkā vidēśa sēvaya) is the body of career diplomats of Sri Lanka. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also the head of the foreign service.
