Rear admiral (Royal Navy), Rear Admiral Robert St Vincent Sherbrooke, (8 January 1901 – 13 June 1972) was a senior officer in the Royal Navy and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth forces. Edward Digby, 12th Baron Digby
Edward Henry Kenelm Digby, 12th Baron Digby, (24 July 1924 – 1 April 2018), also 6th Baron Digby in the Peerage of Great Britain, was a British peer and British Army (Coldstream Guards) officer. Early life He was the son of the Edward Digby, 11th Baron Digby. He studied at Eton and Trinity College, Oxford, and trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Career During World War II, he served as an army officer with the British Army of the Rhine. As a cadet, he received an emergency commission as a second lieutenant on 15 February 1945, relinquished this commission on 22 May 1946 and received a regular commission in the Coldstream Guards from the same date. Digby succeeded his father as Baron Digby in 1964. The House of Lords Act 1999 removed the right of hereditary peers to sit in the House of Lords. Baron Digby is a title that has been created twice, once in the Peerage of Ireland and once in the Peerage of Great Britain, for members of the same family. Robert Digby, Governor of King's County, was created Baron Digby, of Geashill in the King's County, in the Peerage of Ireland in 1620. He was the nephew of John Digby, 1st Earl of Bristol. Lord Digby's grandson, the third Baron, and the latter's younger brothers, the fourth and fifth Barons, all represented Warwick in Parliament. The 5th Baron's grandson, the 6th Baron, sat as a Member of Parliament for Malmesbury and for Wells. His younger brother, the 7th Baron, represented Ludgershall and Wells in the House of Commons. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities.
