Dinu Brătianu (; January 13, 1866 – August 20, 1950), born Constantin I. C. Brătianu, was a Romanian engineer and politician who led the National Liberal Party (PNL) starting in 1934. Life Early career He was born at the estate of ''Florica'', in Ștefănești, Argeș County, the son of the great Romanian statesman Ion Brătianu and of his wife, (née Pleșoianu). The fourth of five children, his brothers were Ion I. C. Brătianu and Vintilă Brătianu. Dinu Brătianu attended Saint Sava High School in Bucharest, while also taking private lessons with the mathematicians Spiru Haret and David Emmanuel. He then studied engineering at the Bucharest Polytechnic, graduating in 1890, and then pursued his studies at the École des mines in Paris. Margareta "Medi" Dinu, née Wechsler ( – July 18, 2016) was a Romanian classical painter of Jewish origin. Early life Margareta Wechsler Dinu was born in Brezoi, Vâlcea County, the daughter of a Jewish accountant, Daniel Wechsler, and a violin player, Amalia Hirschfeld. Due to the rise in power of the Iron Guard, at the age of 8, she was forced to leave her hometown of Brezoi and in the next few years lived in several cities: Bucharest, Târgoviște, Cluj, Oradea, Râmnicu Vâlcea. She was spared deportation due to her father's veteran status. Medi pursued her studies and graduated from the bourgeois "Choisy-Mangru" high-school in Bucharest. Luminița Dinu (née Huțupan; born 6 November 1971) is a Romanian handball player. She is considered a handball legend in Romania. She received a silver medal at the 2005 World Championship and was named goalkeeper of the All-Star Team. She was inducted into the EHF Hall of Fame in 2024. In January 2011, Dinu was chosen the best female goalkeeper ever in a fans' poll carried out by the International Handball Federation by collecting more than 7000 votes (nearly 94%). For her services to the team and the city, and her exemplary sportsmanship conduct, Dinu was made Honorary Citizen of Râmnicu Vâlcea in 2010. Loredana Dinu (born Iordăchioiu; born 2 April 1984) is a retired Romanian épée fencer, twice World champion and twice European champion with Romania. Biography Dinu began fencing at age 11 after coaches from different sports did a presentation at her school. Her first coaches were Dumitru Popescu and Radu Mitrăchioiu. Stephan Roll (pen name of Gheorghe Dinu, also credited as Stéphane, Stefan or Ștefan Roll; June 5, 1904 – May 14, 1974) was a Romanian poet, editor, film critic, and communist militant. An autodidact, he played host to the Romanian avant-garde at his father's dairy shop, publishing his work in short-lived reviews and in two volumes of poetry. As one of the editors of the magazine ''unu'', he turned from Constructivism, Futurism and jazz poetry to the more lyrical format of Surrealism. Dinu Cristea (10 August 1911 – 1991) was a Romanian long-distance runner. He competed in the marathon at the 1952 Summer Olympics, finishing in 31st place. He ran for the first time in an official competition in 1933. With a height of and a weight of , his physique was well-suited for running. During his running career, Cristea earned 46 national titles (the highest number in Romanian athletics) and established 19 national records. Cornel Dinu (born 2 August 1948) is a Romanian retired professional footballer and manager who played as a sweeper or a defensive midfielder. He started out his playing career at hometown club Metalul Târgoviște in 1965, and went on to spend the rest of his career at Dinamo București with which he won eight domestic trophies. Internationally, Dinu appeared in over 60 matches for the Romania national team and scored three goals.
