Dinorah De Jesús Rodriguez
Dinorah de Jesús Rodríguez (born April 28, 1957) is an experimental film artist based between Miami, Florida, and La Habana, Cuba. Background Rodríguez was born on April 28, 1957, in Placetas, Cuba, just prior to the Cuban Revolution. She emigrated with her family to the United States by way of Spain in 1963 at the age of six and grew up in an immigrant, working-class family in the United States. Rodriguez became interested in 16mm film making while studying journalism at Boston University from 1975 to 1978. From the beginning of her filmmaking career, she was drawn to experimental genres, inspired in the hand-crafted work of Len Lye, Stan Brakhage and Norman McLaren. Placetas
Placetas () is a city in the Villa Clara Province in the center of Cuba; before the change in the country's government in 1959 the province was called Las Villas. The town is also known as because of its wild Lauraceae, laurel trees. Placetas is also a , one of 13 subdivisions of the Villa Clara Province. Cuba's geographical center, Guaracabulla, is located in this municipality. History Placetas was founded on September 9, 1861 mainly due to the sugar production industry. Marlon Troy Riggs (February 3, 1957 – April 5, 1994) was a Black gay filmmaker, educator, poet, and activist. He produced, wrote, and directed several documentary films, including '' Ethnic Notions'', '' Tongues Untied'', '' Color Adjustment'', and '' Black Is... Black Ain't.'' Nam June Paik
Nam June Paik (; July 20, 1932 – January 29, 2006) was a South Korean artist. He worked with a variety of media and is considered to be the founder of video art. He is credited with the first use (1974) of the term "electronic super highway" to describe the future of telecommunications. Born in Seoul to a wealthy business family, Paik trained as a classical musician, spending time in Japan and West Germany, where he joined the Fluxus collective and developed a friendship with experimental composer John Cage.
