Dieter Wemhöner
Dieter Wemhöner (born 18 August 1930) is a former amateur boxing middleweight who won a gold medal at the 1953 European Amateur Boxing Championships. He represented West Germany in the Boxing at the 1952 Summer Olympics#Middleweight (-75kg), 1952 Olympics, reaching the third round; and the United Team of Germany at the Boxing at the 1956 Summer Olympics#Middleweight (75 kg), 1956 Olympics, reaching the second round. Wemhöner is married and has two sons, Thilo (born 1959) and Jens (born 1961). Stig Karl Olof Sjölin (21 December 1928 – 9 January 1995) was a Swedish middleweight boxer. He competed at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics and finished in third and ninth place, respectively. Between 1949 and 1955 he won four medals at European championships. Amateur Boxing
Amateur boxing is the variant of boxing practiced in clubs and associations around the world, at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, as well as at the varsity sports, collegiate level. Amateur boxing bouts comprise three rounds of three minutes for men, and four rounds of two minutes for women, each with a one-minute interval between rounds. Men's senior bouts changed in format from four two-minute rounds to three three-minute rounds on January 1, 2009. Amateur boxing rewards point-scoring blows, based on the number of clean punches landed, rather than physical power. Also, the amateur format allows tournaments to feature several bouts over several days, unlike professional boxing, where fighters typically rest several months between bouts. The United Team of Germany () was a combined team of athletes from West Germany and East Germany that competed in the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Winter Olympic Games, Winter and Summer Olympic Games. In 1956, the team also included athletes from a third Olympic body, the Saar at the 1952 Summer Olympics, Saarland Olympic Committee, which had sent a separate team in 1952, but in 1956 was in the process of joining the German Olympic Sports Confederation, German National Olympic Committee.
