Diego Sarrió Cucarella
Diego Ramón Sarrió Cucarella (born 20 July 1971) is a Spanish Roman Catholic prelate serving as bishop of Laghouat, Algeria since 19 March 2025. He holds a PhD in Islamic Studies from Georgetown University, and previously served as the director and president of the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies. He is a member of the White Fathers and previously served their mission in the Diocese of Laghouat after his ordination to the priesthood on 2 June 2001. He is an expert in the intellectual history of Christian-Muslim relations and has lived in Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, and Tunisia. Immediately prior to his appointment as bishop, he was serving in a parish in Muscat, Oman Muscat (, ) is the capital and most populous city in Oman. It is the seat of the Governorate of Muscat. The Diocese of Laghouat () is a Latin Church ecclesiastical jurisdiction or diocese of the Catholic Church covering the sparsely populated Saharan inland of Algeria. It is immediately subject to the Holy See and not part of any ecclesiastical province, and depends on the missionary Dicastery for Evangelization. The bishops cathedra is found in the Pro-Cathedral of Ghardaïa in the episcopal see of Ghardaïa. The former cathedral is the now-deconsecrated church of Saint Hilarion, in the city of Laghouat. Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle ( , ; born June 21, 1957) is a Filipino prelate of the Catholic Church, and has been the Pro-Prefect for the Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches of the Dicastery for Evangelization (formerly Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples) since December 8, 2019.
