Diego Gutiérrez Y Toledo
Diego Gutiérrez y Toledo (c. 1510 – December 1544) was the first governor of Nuevo Cartago y Costa Rica Province, established by the Crown of Castile within the Captaincy General of Guatemala in the Viceroyalty of New Spain. Under a new decree on November 29, 1540, the King appointed Diego Gutierrez  as governor and captain to explore and populate the portion of Veragua that lay outside the Duchy. By this time, the entity known as Veragua Real had officially ceased to exist as an administrative division due to the creation of the Duchy of Veragua. As a result, the vast Veragua was divided into two parts: the Duchy of Veragua and another region that was unified with territories on the Pacific slope previously belonging to Castilla de Oro. This territory was renamed the Gobernación de Cartago by the King. However, the first governor, Diego Gutierrez, insisted on naming it Gobernación de Cartago y Costa Rica. Diego Gutiérrez de Humanes (1607 - 1660s) was a Spanish politician and military man who served in the Viceroyalty of Peru as Lieutenant Governor of Santa Fe, Argentina. Biography Diego Gutiérrez de Humanes was born 1607 in Buenos Aires. As the son of Pedro Gutiérrez and Mayor Humanés de Molina, he belonged to a distinguished Spanish family. He was married to Leonor Carbajal, daughter of Gonzalo Carbajal and María de Salas y Reynoso. Diego Gutiérrez (born November 3, 1972) is a former professional soccer player, who spent his career between Chicago Fire and Kansas City Wizards, both of Major League Soccer, and is currently a radio commentator for ESPN Deportes Kansas City. Born in Colombia, he played for the United States national team. Early life and education Born in Colombia, Gutiérrez was part of the country's youth teams. He came to the United States to attend the University of Evansville and Rockhurst University. He was a 1994 First Team NAIA All American at Rockhurst. Diego Nicolás Gutiérrez Zúñiga (born February 18, 1997) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League. Early life Gutiérrez was born to Chilean parents in Greenfield Park, Quebec in Canada and moved to Santiago in Chile when he was three years old. He began playing soccer at age five in the Colo-Colo academy. Afterwards, he joined the youth setup of Palestino. Diego Gutierrez (born January 5, 1999) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for USL Championship club Monterey Bay FC. Early life Gutierrez grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. In his youth, he played in the local Latino Sunday league in Omaha. He also played youth soccer with Elite Academy. Gutierrez played high school soccer at Ralston High School, finishing his time there as the state's all-time leading goal scorer with 112 goals as well as tallying 43 assists. Diego Gutiérrez was a Spanish cosmographer and cartographer of the Casa de la Contratación. He was given this post by royal appointment on 22 October 1554, after the death of his father Diego Gutiérrez in January 1554, and worked on the Padrón Real, the Spanish master map used on all royal sailing ships in the Spanish fleet. New World map In 1562 Gutiérrez published a remarkable map entitled '' Americae Sive Quartae Orbis Partis Nova Et Exactissima Descriptio'' in Antwerp (then part of the Spanish Netherlands) in collaboration with the printer Hieronymus Cock. The reason it was published in Antwerp was because the Spanish engravers were not skilled enough to print such a complicated document.
