It was founded in 2004 by the editors of the German satirical magazine ''Titanic (magazine), Titanic''. It is led by Martin Sonneborn. Martin Sonneborn
Martin Hans Sonneborn (born 15 May 1965) is a German politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP). He is a founder and federal chairman of Die PARTEI. He was editor-in-chief of the satirical magazine ''Titanic (magazine), Titanic'' from 2000 to 2005 and works for ''Spiegel Online'' and ''ZDF''. Family and early life Sonneborn grew up with his brother as a son of the career counselor and later Federal President of Germany, presidential candidate Engelbert Sonneborn and a housewife. He went to school in Osnabrück, where he passed the Abitur exam. The "Lied der Partei" ('Song of the Party'), also known as ('The Party is always right'), was the party song of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) the ruling party of East Germany. It was written by German Bohemian composer Louis Fürnberg, who as a devout communist joined the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in 1928. It is best known by the first line of its chorus: ' ('The Party, the Party, is always right'). Written in the early 1950s before Louis Fürnberg's death in 1957. A one-party state, single-party state, one-party system or single-party system is a governance structure in which only a single political party controls the ruling system. Nico Semsrott (born 11 March 1986) is a German Kabarett artist, slam poet, and politician. He was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2019 as a member of Die PARTEI, but left the party in 2021, and sat as an independent. Career Entertainment In school, he founded the satirical school newspaper ''Sophie's Underworld'' () together with his younger brother, Arne Semsrott at the Hamburg . Its sale was banned on the school grounds by the school's headmistress, though it was continued to be sold from a portable toilet. 2014 European Parliament Election In Germany
The 2014 European Parliament election in Germany was held on 25 May 2014. Under the Lisbon Treaty, Germany lost three seats and elected 96 members of the European Parliament, instead of the previous 99. Electoral threshold The previous electoral threshold of 5% was ruled unconstitutional in 2011, leading the major parties to implement a 3% threshold instead. However the Constitutional Court ruled on 26 February 2014 that this threshold was illegal as well. Under this circumstances a vote share of 0.6% proved sufficient to win an EP seat (result of Die PARTEI) and seven parties won single seats; the seats were allocated according to the Webster/Sainte-Laguë method.
