The dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez (also known as ''Gomecismo'' and self-named ''Rehabilitación'') refers to the presidency of Juan Vicente Gómez and his subsequent puppet governments in Venezuela. It began after Gómez, then vice president, betrayed and overthrew Cipriano Castro in a 1908 Venezuelan coup d'état, 1908 coup d'état, ending Dictatorship of Cipriano Castro, Castro's dictatorship. The regime lasted 27 years until Gómez's death in 1935, following his fourth reelection. Yeꞌkuana
The Yeꞌkuana, also called Yeꞌkwana, YeꞌKuana, Yekuana, Yequana, Yecuana, Dekuana, Maquiritare, Makiritare, Soꞌto and Maiongong, are a Cariban-speaking tropical rain-forest tribe who live in the Caura River and Orinoco River regions of Venezuela in Bolivar State and Amazonas State. In Brazil, they inhabit the northeast of Roraima State. In Venezuela, the Yeꞌkuana live alongside their former enemies, the Sanumá (Yanomami subgroup). When the Yeꞌkuana wish to refer to themselves, they use the word Soꞌto, which can be translated as "people", "person". ''The Vortex'' () is a novel written in 1924 by the Colombian author José Eustasio Rivera. It is set in at least three different bioregions of Colombia during the rubber boom. This novel narrates the adventures of Arturo Cova, a hot-headed proud chauvinist and his lover Alicia, as they elope from Bogotá, through the eastern plains and later, escaping from criminal misgivings, through the Amazon rainforest of Colombia. In this way Rivera is able to describe the magic of these regions, with their rich biodiversity, and the lifestyle of the inhabitants. San Fernando De Atabapo
San Fernando de Atabapo is a town in southern Venezuela on the border with Colombia. It was the capital city of the Amazonas state until the early 1900s. The population in 1997 was approximately 5,000. In the early twentieth century it was ruled for a long time by Tomás Funes, a powerful caudillo who controlled the local rubber industry (derived from indigenous rubber plants) by enslaving the local native populations. His power eventually became great enough to threaten the Venezuelan authorities and he was ultimately executed in the town square in the early 1930s.
