Dick Christy
Richard Christy (November 24, 1935 – July 8, 1966) was an American football halfback who played one season for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) and for the Boston Patriots and the New York Titans / Jets of the American Football League (AFL). Early years Christy played high school football at St. James High School for Boys, where he was named twice first-team all-scholastic by the Philadelphia Bulletin in 1952 and 1953. He also led St. James to the Philadelphia City Football Championship in 1953. College career Christy was a star halfback for the NC State Wolfpack football team from 1955 to 1957, leading them to the 1957 Atlantic Coast Conference championship in his senior year. With the league title on the line in the season's final game, Christy scored all 29 points in a 29–26 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks to clinch the championship for his team. NC State Wolfpack Football
The NC State Wolfpack football team represents North Carolina State University in the sport of American football. The Wolfpack competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Prior to joining the ACC in 1953, the Wolfpack were a member of the Southern Conference. As a founding member of the ACC, the Wolfpack has won seven conference championships and participated in 34 bowl games, of which the team has won 17. NC State is coached by Dave Doeren. Halfback (American Football)
A halfback (HB) is an Offense (sports), offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and Carry (gridiron football), carrying the ball (gridiron football), ball on most rush (gridiron football), rushing American football plays, plays, i.e. a running back. When the principal ball carrier lines up deep in the backfield, and especially when that player is placed behind another player (usually a Blocking (American football), blocking back), as in the I formation, that player is instead referred to as a tailback (TB). Sometimes the halfback can catch the ball from the backfield on short passing plays as they are an eligible receiver. Occasionally, they line up as additional wide receivers. Chicago College All-Star Game
The Chicago Charities College All-Star Game was a preseason American football game played from 1934 to 1976 between the National Football League (NFL) champions and a team of star college seniors from the previous year. It was also known as the College All-Star Football Classic. The game was contested annually—except for 1974, due to that year's NFL strike—and was played in July, August, or September. In the 42 College All-Star Games, the defending pro champions won 31, the All-Stars won nine, and two were ties, giving the collegians a .238 winning percentage. 1958 Green Bay Packers Season
The 1958 Green Bay Packers season was their 40th season overall and their 38th season in the National Football League. The team finished with a 1–10–1 record under first-year head coach Ray McLean for a last-place finish in the league in and the worst record ever posted by a Green Bay Packers, Packers team. The 1958 NFL draft had its first four rounds held on December 2, 1957, and its final twenty-six rounds on January 28, 1958. Both sessions were held at the Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia.
