On 27 December 1920, Dick, Kerr Ladies beat St Helens Ladies 4–0 at Goodison Park in front of 53,000 spectators, an attendance figure for a women's club football match that would not be exceeded for 99 years, and for a women's club football match in the United Kingdom that would not be exceeded for 103 years. Threatened by the continued popularity of women's football after male players returned from the First World War, the Football Association would shortly afterwards ban women's football in England, a restriction that lasted 50 years. Alice Woods (footballer)
Alice Stanley (née Woods; 20 March 1899 – 1991) was an English footballer. She played for Dick, Kerr Ladies, one of the earliest women's association football teams. She was a sprinter and one of the first women to race under Amateur Athletic Association of England (AAA) laws. Early life Born in Sutton, St Helens, Woods started playing football when she was working at a munitions factory in the town and her brother taught her how to play. Before she took up football, she was already a top class sprinter and could run a hundred yards in twelve seconds. She became the first woman to win a race held under Amateur Athletic Association of England (AAA) laws. Lily Parr
Lilian Parr (26 April 1905 – 24 May 1978) was an English professional women's association football player who played as a winger. She is best known for playing for the Dick, Kerr's Ladies team, which was founded in 1917 and based in Preston, Lancashire. In 2002, she was the only woman to be made an inaugural inductee into the English Football Hall of Fame at the National Football Museum. Florrie Redford
Florrie Redford was an English footballer and nurse. She played for Dick, Kerr Ladies, one of England's earliest professional women's association football teams. She was a leading goal scorer for the club in 1921, when she scored a total of 170 goals. In later life she worked as a nurse in Canada, returning to the team briefly in 1938. Early life Redford was born in Preston, Lancashire and, during the First World War, worked for Dick, Kerr & Co. producing munitions and other war supplies. During this time she and the other young women who made up the majority of the factory staff, men being largely drafted into the Army, played football during their meal breaks.
