Dharamshala
Dharamshala (, ; also spelled Dharamsala) is a town in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It serves as the winter capital of the state and the administrative headquarters of the Kangra district since 1855. The town also hosts the Tibetan Government-in-exile. Dharamshala was a municipal council until 2015, when it was upgraded to a municipal corporation. The town is located in the Kangra Valley, in the shadow of the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas at an altitude of . References to Dharamshala and its surrounding areas are found in ancient Hindu scriptures such as Rig Veda and Mahabharata. The region was under Mughal influence before it was captured by the Sikh Empire in 1785. The East India Company captured the region for the British following the First Anglo-Sikh War of 1846, from when it became part of the British Indian province of the Punjab. Mcleodganj
McLeod Ganj or McLeodganj (pronounced ) is a suburb of Dharamshala, in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is known as "Little Lhasa" or "Dhasa" as the Tibetan government-in-exile is headquartered here and there is a significant population of Tibetans in the region. Etymology McLeod Ganj was named after Sir Donald Friell McLeod, a Lieutenant Governor of Ajmer during British colonial rule in India; the suffix ''ganj'' is a common Persian word used for "neighbourhood". Dharamshala Municipal Corporation (SMC) is the municipal corporation of Dharamshala District Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, and is the chief nodal agency for the administration of the city. Kangra District
Kangra district is the most populous district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Dharamshala is the administrative headquarters of the district. History Kangra is known for having one of the oldest serving Royal Dynasty in the world, the Katoch of the Kangra State. In 1758, Raja Ghamand Chand was appointed ''nazim'' or governor of Jullundur Doab under the Afghans. Ghamand Chand was a brave and strong ruler who restored the prestige of Kangra. As he was unable to capture Kangra Fort, he built another fort at Tira Sujanpur on the left bank of the Beas, almost opposite to Alampur on a hill overlooking the town. He died in 1774 and was succeeded by his son, Tegh Chand, who died too soon in 1775. Bhagsu
Bhagsu/Bhaksu (also known as Bhagsunag or Bhagsunath) is a village near McLeod Ganj in Dharamshala, in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The village is the site of Bhagsunag waterfall and the ancient Bhagsunag Temple. In early 18th century, the Gorkhas came here with British to settle and they formed the 1st Gorkha Rifles in 1815 (The Malaun Regiment). This is a list of urban agglomerations, cities and towns as per 2011 census in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala, Solan, Palampur, and Mandi became municipal corporations after 2011 census hence their area has been expanded resulting in a change of population, which has been updated as recent one. Most of the cities and towns appear to have larger population than the above mentioned figures due to rapid outgrowth in the recent years. For example, Baddi has emerged as one of the largest cities considering rapid industrialisation and urbanisation in the past decade.
