Despot Badžović
Despot S. Badžović (, ) (1850 — 30 November 1930) was a teacher and an activist of the Serbian national movement in Macedonia. Badžović was also one of the early '' Macedonists'', who developed some kind of pro-Serbian Slav Macedonian identity. Teacher in Kruševo Despot Badžović and his brother Đorđe graduated at the Second Department of the Belgrade Orthodox Seminary founded by Miloš Milojević. In 1871 Badžović opened a Serbian school in Kruševo for about 60 students where he and his brother Đorđe were the first teachers. Đorđe left the school in 1875 to become a teacher in Smilevo, and Despot left in 1876 to live in Serbia. Their brother Kuzman and his wife, Jelena Badžović, replaced them as teachers. Smilevo
Smilevo () is a village in North Macedonia, municipality of Demir Hisar. It is famous for the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie uprising which started in the village in the morning of August 2, 1903 (see Battle of Smilevo). The decision for the uprising was taken during the Smilevo congress of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO) from May 2 to May 7, 1903. The village is the native place of Dame Gruev, one of the founders and most prominent leaders of IMRO. History The village was the venue of the IMRO's Smilevo Congress of 1903, at which the decision for uprising against the Ottoman rule in Macedonia was taken by the most prominent members of IMRO. IMRO's revolutionaries rose up on August 2, 1903, which was marked as the beginning of the Ilinden uprising. Association Of Serbo-Macedonians
The Association of Serbo-Macedonians (Serbian language, Serbian and Macedonian language, Macedonian: Друштво Србо-Македонци, ''Društvo Srbo-Makedonci''), was a group founded by intellectuals from the region of Macedonia (region), Macedonia in 1886, and based in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire. The association propagated a kind of pro-Serbian Slav Macedonian identity, distinguished especially from the ethnic identity of the Bulgarians. This was the first step of a plan to eventual Serbianisation of the Macedonian Slavs, promoted by the Serbian government. Background Macedonian nationalism asserts a distinct Macedonian identity, and first emerged as a thin intellectual movement in the 1860s.
