Delaware is an unincorporated community in eastern Shannon County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community is located on Mahans Creek approximately four miles southwest of Eminence. Shannon County, Missouri
Shannon County is a county in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,031. Its county seat is Eminence. The county was officially organized on January 29, 1841, and was named in honor of George F. "Peg-Leg" Shannon, a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It is the second-largest county by area in Missouri. Missouri's first copper mine was opened in Shannon County in 1846 and Missouri's only manganese mine was opened here during World War II. As of the 2000 census, Shannon County ranked 78th on the list of counties with the lowest per capita income and 46th on the list of counties with the lowest median household incomes in the United States, making it the poorest county in Missouri. Mahans Creek
Mahans Creek is a stream in southeastern Shannon County in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. It is a tributary of Jacks Fork. The stream headwaters are at and the confluence with the Jacks Fork is at . The stream source area is northwest of Winona and it flows north along Missouri Route E past the community of Delaware. It then turns to the northeast and passes under Missouri Route 106 and joins the Jacks Fork just northwest of Eminence. A variant name was "Manans Creek". Eminence, Missouri
Eminence is a city and the county seat of Shannon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 515 at the 2020 census. History A post office called Eminence has been in operation since 1844. According to one account, Eminence was so named on account of its lofty elevation, however, this interpretation is disputed. Geography Eminence is located in the center of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, Missouri's largest national park and the nation's first protected river system. Popular activities in the Eminence area include canoeing, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. Eminence maintains a small-town feel, but in the summer becomes a resort city with several locally owned restaurants, motels, bed & breakfasts, including America's largest trail riding establishment. The Lenape (, , ; ), also called the Lenni Lenape and Delaware people, are an Indigenous people of the Northeastern Woodlands, who live in the United States and Canada. The Lenape's historical territory included present-day northeastern Delaware, all of New Jersey, the eastern Pennsylvania regions of the Lehigh Valley and Northeastern Pennsylvania, and New York Bay, western Long Island, and the lower Hudson Valley in New York state.
