Deividas Stagniūnas
Deividas Stagniūnas (born 28 April 1985) is a Lithuanian former Ice dancing, ice dancer. With Isabella Tobias, he is the 2011 Skate America bronze medalist and placed in the top ten at two European Figure Skating Championships, European Championships. They represented Lithuania at the 2014 Winter Olympics, where Stagniūnas was the flagbearer. Career Early years Stagniūnas began skating at age five. He moved to the United States at age 15 to skate with a partner. Early in his career, Stagniūnas was coached by Walter Wielunski and Natalia Dubova, who trained him in ice dancing. They trained in Darien, Illinois, where he lived with his partner, Laura Whipple. He and Whipple won the senior bronze medal at the Lake Placid ice dancing competition, representing Lithuania. Figure Skating At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Qualification
The following is about the qualification rules and allocation of spots for the figure skating events at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Qualification system A total of 148 quota spots are available to athletes to compete at the games. A maximum of 18 athletes can be entered by a National Olympic Committee, with a maximum of 9 men or 9 women. An additional six quota spots were made available for the team event. A further ten team trophy quotas (two in each discipline) will be distributed to countries qualifying for the team event, but not the discipline itself. This means up to a maximum of 158 athletes can partake. Skater qualification There is no individual athlete qualification to the Olympics; the choice of which athlete(s) to send to the Games is at the discretion of each country's National Olympic Committee. The 2013 European Figure Skating Championships was a senior international figure skating competition in the 2012–13 season. The competition was held from 23 to 27 January 2013 at the Dom Sportova in Zagreb, Croatia. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing.
