The Deccan Education Society is an organisation that runs 43 education establishments in Maharashtra, India. Its main branch is situated in Pune. History In 1880 Vishnushastri Chiplunkar, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Gopal Ganesh Agarkar established the New English School, one of the first native-run schools offering Western education in Pune. In 1884 they created the Deccan Education Society with Hon. Justice Mahadev Govind Ranade, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, Mahadev Ballal Namjoshi, V. S. Apte, V. B. Kelkar, M. S. Gole and N. K. Dharap.The Maharaja of Kolhapur State, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Shahu of Kolhapur, Shahu served as the president of the society from 1885 till his death in 1922. The Deccan is a plateau extending over an area of and occupies the majority of the Indian peninsula. Wai (ISO 15919, ISO: ''Vāī''; Pronunciation: Help:IPA/Marathi, [ʋaːi] ) is a town in Satara district of Maharashtra state in India. Hindustan Antibiotics School (also known as H.A. School) is a Pre-Primary Primary & secondary school in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, India. It was established in 1958, with its school buildings being inaugurated by the first and second Prime Ministers of India, Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri. It was established mainly to serve the children of employees working at Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL) and poor children from the neighbouring areas for a nominal fee. In 1966, HAL transferred the management of the school to the Deccan Education Society (DES) under a 98 year lease; however, in 2012, the DES informed HAL that it no longer wished to administer the school, citing a lack of adequate funding from the company. The Institute of Management Development and Research (IMDR) in Pune, India is the oldest management institution in Pune and is a branch of the Deccan Education Society. Sangli State
Sangli State was one of the 11- gun salute Maratha princely states of British India. It was under the Kolhapur-Deccan Residency in the Bombay Presidency, and later the Deccan States Agency. The Principality of Sangli covered an area of 2,880 square kilometers and had a population of 226,128 in 1901, while the population of the town itself was 16,829 in that year. Bhor State
Bhor State was one of the 9-gun salute Maratha princely states of Deccan States Agency. It was the only state belonging to the Poona Agency under the Bombay Presidency, which became later part of the Deccan States Agency. Along with Akkalkot State, Aundh State, Phaltan State and Jath State, it was one of the Satara Jagirs. The state merged with the newly independent Indian union in 1948. Situated among the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats, the state covered an area of 2,396 square kilometres, and had a population of 137,268 in 1901.
