Debra Byrd
Debra Byrd (July 19, 1951 – March 5, 2024) was an American vocalist who worked with Barry Manilow in and after Lady Flash and Bob Dylan, appeared on Broadway, and served as the head vocal coach for ''American Idol'' and ''Canadian Idol'', also singing backup for the contestants. Byrd helped with vocals on the Hub Television Series "Majors and Minors". In her later years, she served as vocal coach for ten seasons of ''American Idol'', as well as the short-lived ''American Juniors ''American Juniors'' is an American reality television singing competition series that was broadcast for one season from June 3 to August 19, 2003, on Fox. The series was a spin-off of ''American Idol'', but with younger contestants. The show ...'', and all six seasons of ''Canadian Idol''. In late 2006 she helped judge ''Military Idol'', a singing competition where all contestants are members of the U.S. Army. Byrd died on March 5, 2024, at the age of 72. Cleveland
Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County. Canadian Idol
''Canadian Idol'' is a Canadian reality television competition show which aired on CTV, based on the British show '' Pop Idol''. The show was a competition to find the most talented young singer in Canada, and was hosted by Ben Mulroney. Jon Dore was the "roving reporter" for the first three seasons (appearing in comedy skits throughout the show). Elena Juatco (a season 2 contestant) assumed the role for season four, Dave Kerr had the role in season five and Jully Black in season six. The show began with a cross-Canada tour in which singers audition in front of four judges: Jake Gold of Toronto, Sass Jordan of Montreal, Quebec, Zack Werner of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Farley Flex of Ajax, Ontario. Eventually the performers were narrowed down to 10 finalists (11 in season one due to a near-tie), with each competitor performing live. ''American Juniors'' is an American reality television singing competition series that was broadcast for one season from June 3 to August 19, 2003, on Fox. The series was a spin-off of ''American Idol'', but with younger contestants. The show had the same production team as ''American Idol'': it was created by Simon Fuller and 19 Entertainment along with FremantleMedia, directed by Bruce Gowers, and produced by Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick. Unlike ''American Idol'', the goal of the competition was not to find a single winner, but rather to create a singing group of five of the contestants. In this way, ''American Juniors'' more closely resembled the British series '' S Club Search'', which had produced the group '' S Club Juniors''.
