DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course
DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course, commonly known as "DeLa", is a world-renowned 29-hole disc golf course in the hills of DeLaveaga Park above Santa Cruz, California. It was established in 1984. It boasts one of the original long disc golf courses, with some holes measuring more than 500 feet in length. The 27th hole, known as "Top of the World," is one of the most famous holes in disc golf; the tee box is situated nearly 600 feet from the pin—and 100 feet above it. DeLaveaga placed #10 on UDisc, Release Point's 2019 list of World's Best Disc Golf Courses. Designed by Professional Disc Golf Association hall of famer and World Disc Games founder Tom Schot. World Disc Games
The World Disc Games (WDG) is a semi-regular event that brings the entire world flying disc community together for a week of overall disc events that allow people to compete in and enjoy disc sports. Beginning in 1978, and originally called the Santa Cruz Flying Disc Classic, the WDG has its home in Santa Cruz, California, with promoter and hall of fame disc sport player Tom Schot. Disc sports competitions at the WDG include ultimate, freestyle, disc golf, discathon, self-caught flight, accuracy, distance, and double disc court. PDGA World Championships
The PDGA Disc Golf World Championships is one of four major championships in the sport of disc golf, along with the United States Disc Golf Championship, the European Open, and the PDGA Champions Cup. Held annually since 1982, the event crowns world champions in several divisions in the professional disc golf fields. Since 1983, male and female competitors have played at the same venue every year. There have been 18 different Champions in the Men's event with an average field of 155 competitors, and 17 different Champions in the Women's event with an average field of 26. PDGA Worlds has been held in 19 US states as well as Toronto, Canada for the 1987 edition. Nate Doss
Nate Doss is an American professional disc golfer who won three PDGA World Championships (2005, 2007, 2011). With his third win, Doss became only the second person to achieve three MPO world championship wins, after Ken Climo‘s twelve. Additionally, Doss became the first Discraft sponsored player to win Disc Golf's other prestigious event, the United States Disc Golf Championship, in 2008. After retiring from the game in 2018, Doss began a new career with his wife Valarie Jenkins (herself a four-time disc golf world champion) as a brewer, launching Bevel Craft Brewing. Masters Cup (disc Golf)
The Masters Cup is an annual disc golf tournament held at DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course in Santa Cruz, California. The event features both amateur and professional divisions. The 23rd annual Masters Cup was held April 18–20 (amateur) and May 2–4 (professional), 2008. The Masters Cup is as important to the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) tour as the Masters Tournament is to the PGA, though far less well known to the general public. Each year, one player is selected to receive the "Steady" Ed Memorial Trophy, a lifetime achievement award dedicated to the spirit of disc golf immortal "Steady" Ed Headrick.
