DeCordova, Texas
DeCordova is a city in Hood County, Texas, United States. As of the US 2018 Population estimates it has a population of 3169. It is a gated residential community located on Lake Granbury, east-southeast of Granbury, and is part of the Granbury, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area. History DeCordova Bend Estates started being developed at the same time as the De Cordova Bend Dam in the late 1960s. The dam, built on the Brazos River to control the flow downstream, formed Lake Granbury. The new community was intended to serve as a weekend recreational getaway for residents of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. It is an all-age residential community southwest of Fort Worth. It has a recently renovated clubhouse, 27 holes of golf, marina, swimming pool, tennis, fitness center and other amenities. Granbury, Texas
Granbury is a city in and the county seat of Hood County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 10,958, and it is the principal city of the Granbury micropolitan statistical area. Granbury is named after Confederate General Hiram B. Granbury. Granbury started as a square and log cabin courthouse. Many buildings on the square are now registered historic landmarks, including the Granbury Opera House, which still hosts "Broadway" productions. The city's name originated from Confederate General Hiram B. Granberry. To explain why the city name is spelled differently, some scholars believe the name Granberry was misread on a document. Granbury Independent School District
Granbury Independent School District is a public school district based in Granbury, Texas (USA). In addition to Granbury, the district serves the eastern Hood County cities of DeCordova and Stockton Bend (formerly Brazos Bend), and the majority of Cresson. The district boundary also includes the unincorporated communities of Canyon Creek, Oak Trail Shores, and Pecan Plantation. Small portions of Parker, Johnson, and Somervell counties also lie within the district. In 2009, the school district was rated " recognized" by the Texas Education Agency. Jacob De Cordova
Jacob Raphael De Cordova (6 June 1808 – 26 January 1868) was the founder of the '' Jamaica Gleaner''. He settled in Texas in 1839 and lived in Galveston. After living in Galveston, De Cordova moved to Houston, Texas where he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives to the second Texas Legislature in the year 1847. Biography Early Times Jacob Raphael de Cordova was born in Spanish Town (near Kingston), Jamaica, on 6 June 1808, the youngest of three sons of Judith and Raphael de Cordova, a coffee brewer and grower, who were British Jews of Spanish descent. Since his mother died at his birth, he was raised by an aunt in England. He was well educated and became proficient in English, French, Spanish, German and Hebrew. He soon moved to Philadelphia to join his father. In 1829, he married a young woman named Rebecca Sterling, the daughter of pioneers. De Cordova Bend Dam
The De Cordova Bend Dam is a man-made dam on the Brazos River in Hood County, Texas, United States, controlled by the Brazos River Authority. De Cordova Bend Dam forms the Lake Granbury. The dam is so named because of the clockwise almost-complete loop in the Brazos River named De Cordova Bend after Jacob De Cordova. The dam is one of only three damming the Brazos River. The Granbury micropolitan statistical area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, was an area consisting of two counties in North Central Texas, anchored by the city of Granbury. In 2013, though, the Office of Management and Budget reclassified the area as a part of the Fort Worth-Arlington metropolititan division within the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area.
